Billions in U.S. dollars sent home by immigrants represents second largest income source for Mexico

With the renewed talk of the taxes paid by illegal immigrants, and Hillary Clinton’s claim that “undocumented workers in New York pay more taxes than some of the biggest corporations in New York,” I was reminded of a little-reported fact that might interest you.

ws_mg (techofheart.com)While residing in Flagstaff, Arizona some 10 years ago, I recall seeing Mexicans lined up regularly at Safeway’s service counter purchasing Western Union Moneygrams. They were sending a portion of their U.S. earnings back to Mexico. I learned that these remittances represented the second largest source of income for Mexico, second only to their oil industry.  Incidentally, the same process takes place with those here from other Latin American countries, increasing outflow to some $70 billion.

Mexico received $21.59 billion in remittances from countrymen here in 2013, according to the Bank of Mexico.  There were nearly 74 million transactions with an average of $292.

Yes, illegal immigrants pay state and local taxes.  Reportedly, an estimated eight million individuals who work paid $11.8 million is sales and property taxes, according to recent reports.  The open border crowd will continue to remind you of this, however, they don’t tell you that California, for instance, spends over $10 billion annually on the education, health care and the incarceration of illegals, while realizing just $2.7 billion in taxes.

By the way, The Washington Post, citing the taxes paid by Citicorp, Verizon and GE, gave Clinton four Pinocchios on her claim that illegal immigrants pay more in taxes than some corporations.

More Clintonomics are soon to be revealed.
