President Obama needed a binder containing possible court nominees

“I’ve got to tell you, we don’t have to collect a bunch of binders to find qualified, talented, driven young women,” President Obama, jokingly remarks about Romney, October 2012

How out of touch can a president be? He needed to have someone prepare a binder of possible Supreme Court nominees to review. (getty images/ljreview.com)

Where was the media last week when President Obama granted a photo op of him walking along the White House portico carrying a binder. Yes, a binder! It was a prop to support his excuse for not attending the funeral of former Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.

“I expect the president will spend a significant amount of his time digging into materials prepared for him,” said White House spokesman Josh Earnest.

You will recall that in 2012, President Obama wasted no time to poke fun of Gov. Mitt Romney after he related the story of how women’s groups in Massachusetts brought him binders containing resumes of women when he was seeking to pull together a cabinet that included women.

Vice President Joe “Gaffe” Biden joined in on the campaign to repeatedly mock Romney over his “binders” remark. “It raises doubts about his commitment to equal pay for women. Talk about out of touch.”

Of course, the leftist media, including the Washington Post, Time, ABC, NPR and CNN all published snarky articles on Romney’s remark. And the Internet buzzed with negative comments directed at Romney.

Katie Pavlich, writing in Townhall.com, however, wrote how Romney had more women in high positions during his time as governor than any other governor in the country, and related how “liberals were desperate to continue their pathetic ‘war on women’ meme.”

This isn’t a simple case of media double standard.  They simply won’t take the chance that poking fun of the president might result in their loss of access to the White House press room.

I never cease to be amazed how the president and his staff are so oblivious to the obvious; using the binder in a photo op.   I can just hear it.  “Here, Mr. President, carry this thick binder of possible nominees.  It will impress everyone that you are busy digging into this material; a good excuse for not attending the Scalia funeral … the Romney binder joke? … forget it, no one will remember that.”
