More Scare Tactics from the UN at Our Expense

Commentary

“Human carbon pollution has already pushed the planet into unprecedented territory, ravaging ecosystems, raising sea levels and exposing millions of people to new weather extremes.  At the current rate of emissions, the world will burn through its remaining ‘carbon budget’ by 2030, putting the ambitious goal of keeping warming to 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit irrevocably out of reach.” – UN Report Climate Change 2022: Mitigation of Climate Change

“The science has been ever more consistent and ever more clear,” said Inger Anderson, executive director of the UN Environmental Program. “Governments, businesses and individuals must summon the willpower to transform economies, embrace new habits and leave behind the age of fossil fuels, or face the catastrophic consequences of unchecked climate change.”

BETCHA DON’T KNOW WHO THIS IS PHOTO QUIZ: Who is this?

In a 3,000-page report, excerpted above, 278 (yes, 278) top climate experts in the so-called Working Group III within the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), say the time for action is now.

One hundred of these experts have been invited to contribute to Greta Thunberg’s ultimate book on climate change, due to be published in October.

As you might expect, those 278 experts were not in total agreement with the authors of the report.  While the scientists reported, “It is still technically possible, and even economically viable, for nations to curb pollution on the scale that’s required,” the report’s authors disagree, writing, “it cannot be achieved through incremental change.”

If it’s too late to change our lives, why are we wasting our time on ill-advised investments?

Unconcerned, President Joe Deep Pockets, always ready to throw our money at wasteful projects, stood before the UN General Assembly as the “Big I Am” to announce that he planned to double funds by 2024 to $11.4 billion to help developing nations deal with climate change.  “It’s a chance for each of our countries to invest in ourselves and our own futures,” he said.

Fortunately, his “pledge” is tied to legislation that requires passage, and West Virginia’s Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin is opposed.

Despite regular warnings of global warming by the IPCC for the past three decades, many Americans are no longer taking threats seriously.

“Fossil fuels have long been reliable, affordable and ubiquitous,” said Kevin Book of Clean Energy Partners. “The reason to do something else has to become more compelling.  The scale of what we’re talking about – zero-emissions and total dependence on alternative sources like wind and solar – is so vast.”

Americans have seen first hand what the Biden clean energy agenda has done to the economy, seeing prices at the pump rising since the day he took office; increases that have had an effect on the transportation element of supply chain management that have brought about food cost increases.

Change will be in our hands in the midterms.
