More Trump Picks and Reactions

Commentary

I must admit I was taken aback with President Elect Trump’s choice of Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz to serve as Attorney General.  Although he has been called a grandstander and flamethrower as a member of the judicial committee, no one can deny his loyalty to Trump. Those behind lawfare better seek new employment.

Following Tulsi Gabbard’s appearances since leaving the Democrat Party, including her moderating of a townhall for Trump, I was sure there would be position for her in the administration.  A retired National Guard lieutenant colonel, Gabbard has been named director of national intelligence (DNI).

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was also alienated by the Democrat Party, has been named to head Health and Human Services with a mission to make America healthy again. When he tried to make a run for the presidency earlier this year, there were Democrat attempts, first to keep him off ballots, then to prevent him from removing his name from ballots.

Ironically, a bust of his father graces Biden’s Oval Office in the White House.

PETE HEGSETH, if confirmed to be SecDef, will order all copies of this foolish plan destroyed.

Commenting on Trump’s choices so far, fellow blogger Ben Domenech views them as “solid, qualified choices designed to please those at the center of the Republican coalition – not fringe characters or raging enthusiasts from the island of misfit toys, much to the frustration of some on the Internet who had engaged in fanciful daydreams about choosing people for these jobs base on their You Tube appearances.”

Oh, there are those who with eyebrows raised over choices, but I’m impressed with Trump’s selections, that so far includes seven individuals from my list of potential nominees.

Radical leftist Sen. Elizabeth Warren and others are poking fun at the fact that it will take two people to find waste and improve efficiency in government. I find it ironic that they are criticizing two “dreaded” billionaires, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, who will work without pay and are now in the process of recruiting Americans who want to help in the endeavor.  DOGE, as it is called will be on a much broader scale than the 1984 Grace Commission under President Reagan and, of course, the dedicated work of the late Sen. Tom Coburn, and more recently Sen. Rand Paul, to cut waste.

Importantly, their work will be transparent, with details open to the public on the Internet.

Trump Meets with Biden

I understand the meeting between President Biden and President Elect Trump was cordial.  Why not? Trump’s decisive electoral and popular vote wins were answer enough to Biden’s frequent remarks about the risk to democracy Trump posed, and his insult of Trump’s supporters as “garbage.”

On the other hand, Melania Trump turned down First Lady Jill Biden’s invitation for tea while their husbands met.  The New York Post reported that she declined the offer as she is upset with the Biden’s over the reckless FBI raid on the Mar-a-Lago residence, snooping through her underwear drawer and one of Barron’s rooms in search of classified documents. During a recent interview on Fox and Friends while promoting her book, Melania, she indicated that the search “made me angry … in invasion of privacy.”

If the story is true … good for Melania.

Too Good

I couldn’t pass up this opportunity to take one last dig at Former President Obama, who was going to be the savior of the Harris-Walz campaign. Columnist Jon Gabriel wrote @exjon: “My favorite part about the Obama era is all the racial healing.”

Back to One of the Few Blue States

On the heels of Illinois Gov. J. B. Pritzker’s, vow to fight efforts to deport individuals in his state, Chicago’s Mayor Brandon Johnson has announced that city officials will shield all immigrants from federal agents, regardless of whether they are asylum seekers.

“We will not bend or break,” Johnson said.  “Our values will remain strong and firm.”

Incidentally, reports that Pritzker is a possible 2028 presidential candidate is a laughing matter.  No chance.

President Elect Trump’s newly appointed Border Czar, Tom Homan, promised to “flood agents to the sanctuary cities” to deport undocumented immigrants.

I found Johnson’s comment that Trump poses a threat to black Chicagoans and would destroy public education, humorous.  In Chicago, just one-fifth of high school students are reading and completing math at grade level, and just 31 percent of students are meeting or exceeding standards in reading and 19 percent in math.

Too bad Governor Pritzker focused his attention on the Biden-Harris administration’s identity politics agenda.  Five years ago, I wrote about Pritzker mandating that “in public schools, the teaching of history shall include a study of the roles and contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the history of the state and our country.”

Is it any wonder, Trump has a mandate to shake things up in establishment Washington?  Things are looking up.

May God continue to bless the United States of America.
