During President Trump’s campaign, the left not only spoke of the risk he posed to democracy, but the retribution they were certain he would inflict on those who viciously tried to keep him from returning to office.
He insisted that his retribution would be in the success of his administration. He didn’t seek retribution from Hillary Clinton in 2016, yet in 2024, they were convinced he would seek revenge from the likes of Liz Cheney and the bad actors within the Department of Justice. So convinced was President Biden that he pardoned her and members of his family just minutes before leaving office.
As I have frequently written – words have meaning – and those chosen by President Trump in his inaugural address directed at Biden & Co. were priceless. They had to be steaming inside as they squirmed in their seats just feet away. Biden might have gotten up and left, but he didn’t know how to get out.
Trump wasted no time to launch his verbal retribution. Immediately following the obligatory thank you’s, he began his indictment of the Biden administration:
“From this day forward, our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world … we will not be taken advantage of any longer.
“Our sovereignty will be reclaimed. Our safety will be restored. The scales of justice will be rebalanced. The vicious, violent and unfair weaponization of the Justice Department and our government will end.
“For many years, a radical and corrupt establishment has extracted power and wealth from our citizens, while the pillars of our society lay broken and seemingly, in complete disrepair.
“We have a government that cannot manage even a simple crisis at home, while at the same time stumbling into a continuing catalog of catastrophic events abroad.
“It fails to protect our magnificent law-abiding American citizens but provides sanctuary and protection for dangerous criminals.
“We have a government was given unlimited funding to the defense of foreign borders, but refuses to defend American borders, or, more importantly, its own people.
“Our country can no longer deliver basic services in times of emergency.
“We have a public health system, that does not deliver in times of disaster, yet more money is spent on it than any country in the world.
“We have an education system that teaches our children to be ashamed of themselves, in many cases, to hate our country.
“All of this will change starting today.
“My recent election is a mandate to completely and totally reverse a horrible betrayal, and all of these betrayals that have taken place, and to give the people back their faith, their wealth, their democracy, and indeed their freedom.
“From this moment on, America’s decline is over. We will immediately restore the integrity, competency and loyalty of America’s government.”
Defiant Trump Regains Power, read the 6-column 72 pt banner headline across the front page of the Wall Street Journal. Defiant, assuredly, but not foolish enough to seek retribution of those who sought to end his quest for another run as president.
May God continue to bless our 47th president as he fulfills his promise to make America great again as he puts America first.
