Americans Speak Up on Retribution, the Shutdown, Amnesty for Illegals and the Construction of a Ballroom for the White House

 Commentary

I usually don’t pay too much attention to polls, but two polls by the usually accurate Rasmussen Reports and another by Reuters/Ipsos that received detailed coverage on retribution in the daily paper deserve comment.

Trump Targeting Enemies

This poll by Reuters/Ipsos is a natural follow-on to my last edition, The Chickens are Coming Home to Roost, in which I briefly reviewed charges against individuals who attempted to keep Trump from winning in 2016, 2020 and 2024.

This poll revealed that 55 percent of respondents agreed that the president is using law enforcement – the DOJ and FBI – to target his enemies, while 26 percent disagreed.  About 85 percent of the respondents identified themselves as Democrats agreed, as did 29 percent of Republicans.

While campaigning in 2024, Trump sloughed-off accusations that he would seek retribution against those who wanted to “get” him, saying his retribution would come in the form of results from his policies.  However, a number of people, including some of his supporters, believe Trump simply doesn’t forget, casting doubt on his personal involvement.

Democrats conveniently like to ignore what has been revealed about the Biden justice department’s role in the “stop Trump” strategy.

Kramerontheright believes that discussions between the president and his top law enforcement officials – Bondi and Patel – regarding the actions of those usual suspects, who knowingly participated in efforts against him, are ethical.

However, I would advise the president to keep those discussions private and to refrain from commenting on those individuals in public sessions while investigations are taking place.

We need accountability addressed without the hint of the president appearing to be involved.

The Shutdown

Rasmussen reveals that a narrow majority of voters – including two-thirds of Democrats – are in favor of having the current government shutdown continue.

Fifty-one percent of Likely U.S. Voters approve of continuing the shutdown, including 31 percent who Strongly Approve. Forty-one percent (41%) disapprove, including 29 percent who Strongly Disapprove of letting the shutdown continue.

Amnesty for Illegals

The latest Rasmussen survey finds that 50 percent of Likely U.S. Voters support legislation to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants and allow them to become permanent U.S. residents.

Naturally, 77 percent of Democrats support legislation to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants and allow them to become permanent U.S. residents, while 63 percent of Republicans are opposed to amnesty. Among voters not affiliated with either major party, 44% support amnesty and 46% are opposed.

The White House Ballroom

I haven’t seen a poll looking for opinions on construction of a  ballroom  addition to the White House, but some of the media have been expounding on it.

At MSNBC, Morning Joe was incredulous.  “It’s hard to believe that any president would destroy the White House and take a wrecking ball to an existing structure so historic.  That is what’s happening,” exclaimed Joe Scarborough.  The event was just in time.  Joe and Mika had nothing else to complain about Tuesday morning.

Connecticut’s Democrat Sen. Blumenthal, known for his opposition to anything Trump, is concerned what damage to the architecture the construction will do to the White House.  Earlier presidents have made major changes as well.

PRESIDENT TRUMAN ORDERS MAJOR WORK ON WHITE HOUSE

Former President Obama once complained that he had to rent a huge, expensive tent for a state function.  Now, if it was Obama that was behind this project, I would be concerned. Have you seen the structure being built for his library in Chicago. But Trump “the builder” knows what he’s doing.

So far, some 30 companies have pledged to help pay for the ballroom, which leftists think surfaces ethical concerns. They see that giving something that’s important to the president could influence his decision-making.

It didn’t seem to bother them when companies like Amazon, Apple and IBM each gave in excess of $100 million to the BLM movement.  Companies gave more than $83 billion with pledges to peddle influence.

California’s daffy Rep. Swalwell has suggested a litmus test for any Democrat candidate for president in 2028 that they will pledge to take a wrecking ball the Trump ballroom on Day One.

I’m sure readers of the Washington Post did a double take when they turned to the opinion page and saw the headline: EDITORIAL BOARD: In defense of the White House ballroom.

“Privately, many alumni of the Biden and Obama White House acknowledge the long-overdue need for an event space like what Trump is creating.  It is absurd that tents needed to be erected on the South Lawn for state dinners, and VIPs are forced to use porta-potties.”

The Post noted that the ballroom will accommodate 999 guests, while the current State Dining Room seats 140 and the East Room seats 200.

May God continue to bless the United States of America and the efforts of President Trump to shine the light on a beautiful White House in a beautified Nation’s Capital.
