Journalists Fail as Reporters, ICE Coverage Favors Opposition

Commentary

I began writing a commentary on the Democrat’s reckless funding in support of ObamaCare, but during a coffee break I read two newspaper articles that called for a mention here; primarily because they provide further evidence of poor journalism.  I’ll get back to my original topic the next day or so.

Incidents around ICE officers doing their job, ridding the country of illegals with criminal records, continue primarily because small protest groups, encouraged by governors and mayors, are blocking them.

The recent incident in Minneapolis with the killing (not murder) of activist Rinee Nicloe Good by Jonathan Ross, an ICE agent, who feared being hit with Good’s car as she accelerated toward him away from two other ICE agents who asked her to get out of her car.

He had good reason to be alert as he was dragged 300 feet by another car in a June incident in nearby Bloomington while attempting to arrest of a Mexican citizen convicted of criminal sexual conduct.  It required 20 stitches in his right arm and 13 stitches in his left hand.

In the Wall Street Journal article, under a six-column banner headline, “Woman Killed by ICE Remembered Fondly,” authors Kris Maher and Victoria Albert, both with extensive journalism experience, included quotes describing Good in overly glowing terms – “She will be desperately missed,” “very bright, friendly and personable,””a very generous and sweet person,” and “a lovely person.”

There was no mention of Good’s reputation by Democrats and activist groups as a “legal observer,” a term used by activists to describe people who follow and document what ICE officers are doing in the field.

Nor was there any mention of the social media’s posting by Good’s wife, which described MN Ice Watch as an “autonomous collective documenting & resisting against ICE police, & all colonial militarized regimes.”  Readers were encouraged to organize against ICE and to submit sightings to the network of activists.

And most disturbing in journalism reporting, there was no mention of the agent’s previous encounter facing the use of an SUV as a weapon.

But, in most coverage, they included a photo of Good in a strapless top.

In the leftist Arizona Republic piece written by David Ullova Jr., a reporter with ties to Latino journalistic associations, included more detail in his reporting, but the headline, “Arizona demonstrators demand justice for Minneapolis woman,” favored the victim, Good, as he covered Phoenix-Scottsdale protests.

It has been typical in comments made by Democrats and their compliant media, to side with the migrants, even in DUI cases where innocent Americans lose their lives, while they laughingly claim to support rule of law.  Accidents on our highways and city streets involve repeat offenders, often with drivers’ licenses provided willey nilly by the left.

Let’s be clear, the protests would not be happening without the phony rhetoric of leftist mayors, governors and other lawmakers, most of which contain “f-bombs” unnecessarily.

Minneapolis’ Mayor Frey’s four-letter expletive for ICE to get out of his city, supported by Governor Walz for the state is echoing in Portland, Oregon and other cities, but it’s not likely ICE will pull up stakes, the stakes are too high.

While in Minneapolis, HHS Secretary Noem reported of success there that included the nabbing of a suspected murderer and a wanted rapist hiding again in plain sight in Minneapolis and said they will continue to fight against those sanctuary jurisdictions that allow these criminal, illegal aliens to roam the streets and take advantage of the public assistance that should be there for every taxpaying American.”

“Will ICE shooting be final tipping point for Americans?” reads he headline in the Arizona Republic. “Probably not,” the writer answers his own question.

My wife mused, “why don’t we just pull ICE out of the cities that do not want them there?”  An interesting question.

It’s not a question of saving face for the Trump administration; it’s a matter of the safety of residents who have criminals living in their midst.    The president sees a responsibility for the security of Americans in danger of the millions of migrants with questionable backgrounds roaming our streets, obligations mayors and governors of so-called sanctuary territories have not fulfilled while migrants continue to take advantage of welfare dollars.

FINALLY … House Minority Leader Jeffries who has had a habit of referring to ICE agents as members of the Gestapo, called Good’s killing “heinous,” which serves to illustrate the overreaching of anti-Trumpers, and you know it’s Trump that the left is blaming for the chaos.

For your benefit, heinousness of crime refers to the extreme wickedness or reprehensible nature of certain criminal acts, particularly those that evoke a strong sense of moral outrage due to their brutality or depravity.  Good’s killing was not heinous.

May God continue to bless the United States of America.
