Companies cave … Mika and Joe again reveal ignorance … Dana Loesch rocks … school campus security … DACVA student threatens schoolmates … and Dems ignore middle-class

Here are my observations on some items in the news.

COMPANIES CAVE – I have written much about those politically correct people, businesses and institutions who cave to pressure from a minority of individuals, but today I want to admonish those who are willing to go weak-kneed on principles delineated in the First and Second Amendments to the Constitution – free speech and the right to bear arms. And, too, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as covered by the Declaration of Independence.

I am referring to the growing list of companies that are cutting ties to the National Rifle Association due to a rise in social media attacks on the NRA and those associated with it. A number of companies have partnership agreements that provide savings to NRA members, including Delta and United Airlines and Enterprise, Alamo, Hertz and National car rental companies.

The First National Bank of Omaha, the largest privately-owned bank in the U.S., announced that it would not renew its contract with the NRA for its co-branded Visa card.

I generally disapprove of boycotts, but I certainly plan to avoid doing business with any company that cuts ties with the NRA. It’s a matter of principle.

“MORNING JOE” HOSTS Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough again reveal their ignorance with their individual Twitter attacks on the NRA as the enemy of law enforcement. If they were at all knowledgeable, they would be aware of the NRA Foundation’s programs to support law enforcement. One such program is #BackOurBlue, the NRA’s salute to those who wear the badge, especially as they find themselves targeted for undeserved blame. Nationwide radio commercials ask listeners to release their old cars to the NRA as a tax-deductible gift to support police.

I HAVE TO HAND IT TO DANA LOESCH, host of her own radio talk show and frequent spokesperson for the NRA, who stood her ground in CNN’s townhall following the Florida school shooting, where tensions were high and gun control was on the minds of parents and youths in the audience. It’s highly unlikely Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel would have received the applause he did when he responded to Loesch if it had been known at the time that a number of ill-prepared (cowardly?) officers remained outside of the school while the shooter was killing 17 students and teachers inside.

DISCUSSING THE FAILURE of the officers to respond with a friend of mine, who has extensive school administrative experience, confided that he learned that a law enforcement person assigned to a school where he was principal, was assigned there to fill a needed niche at that point of his career.

If school districts believe the presence of law enforcement is vital to their students’ safety, they must insist that they have the proper training and be assured they will respond to gunfire or other alerts. Those individuals must vary their movements on campuses each day so that a potential shooter will not know where he or she will be at any one time. School officials responsible for safety on a sprawling campus – as in the Florida school – surely must now recognize that one officer will not be adequate.

Would someone with military experience be better suited for this role? Just asking.

DACA student Abigail Hernandez.

DACA STUDENT THREAT – Last week, Abigail Hernandez, an illegal alien with DACA status, threatened her classmates on Facebook with: “I’m coming tomorrow morning and I’m going to shoot all of ya bitches.” A student at East High in the Rochester (New York) City School District, she was arrested before she could carry out the threat.

DEMOCRATS SHUN THE MIDDLE-CLASS – Here’s an update on the piece I wrote on January 20, 2018, covering how Democrat-controlled states in New England are paying more to heat their homes this winter; up 400 percent in some parts. It is the result of opposition to above ground natural gas pipelines going across their states.

Just when Massachusetts thought they were close to securing future supplies of green energy by piping hydroelectric power from Canada – a $1.6 billion project – New Hampshire said “no” to a 192-mile transmission line that would bring electricity through the Granite State, according to The Wall Street Journal.

New England turned to burning oil for electricity during the heavy cold snap, using twice the oil burned in all of 2016 and resulting in electricity costs 56 percent above the national average.

I find it humorous that the New England states have an ambitious goal of converting to so-called clean energy; Massachusetts wants 40 percent of its power derived from clean energy sources by 2030. However, the WSJ reports that large-scale infrastructure projects to meet the goal have been a nonstarter in recent years. A company that planned to develop an offshore wind farm off Cape Cod withdrew following a decade of local (Democrat) opposition.

TWITTER FOLLOWERS are suggesting that people send pink pussy hats to Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel for his deputies who stationed themselves outside the school while the shooter was inside killing 17 students and teachers.
