Hatch on Kavanaugh’s temperament … Flake on Kavanaugh’s responses … Flake’s new ‘McCain’ … a suggestion for Flake … Ford’s two front door tale … and Goldberg offers advice to journalists

Here are my observations and opinions on selected news of the day.

SUPPORTERS OF JUDGE KAVANAUGH seem to universally agree that he came across meekly in his September 24, 2018 interview on Fox with Martha MacCallum leading many to hope that his appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee would be stronger. And it was.

When the “facts” of his alleged sexual assault went south, the Democrat hate squad turned to his demeaner. They were shocked by his forceful response to charges against him.

“That Judge Kavanaugh had the temerity to defend himself vigorously is now being counted as a strike against him,” writes Sen Orrin Hatch (R-UT) in a Wednesday Wall Street Journal op-ed. “Over and over we hear him described as ‘angry,’ ‘belligerent,’ or ‘partisan,’ followed by the claim that his conduct at the hearing shows that he lacks a judicial temperament.

“Had Judge Kavanaugh sat dispassionately through Thursday’s hearing and denied the allegations weakly, his critics would have taken his lack of forcefulness as proof of guilt. We all know this. We’re not stupid. Spare us the pearl-clutching.”

THE FLAKE’S COMMENT was typical of his weak-kneed character. “The initial defense that Judge Kavanaugh gave was something like I told my wife that I hope that I would sound that indignant if I felt that I was unjustly maligned.” He then turned to the Democrat talking points, and was critical of Kavanaugh’s “sharp and partisan” responses to committee members. “We can’t have this on the court, we simply can’t.”

Never mind that his performance over some 300 decisions on the DC court was unblemished.

THE FLAKE’S NEW PARTNER – With the passing of Sen. John McCain, Senator Flake no longer has someone to lean on to help make important decisions. Sen. Chris Coons didn’t hesitate to leap to his side and convinced him to pressure his GOP colleagues to seek another check by the FBI. The media was more than happy to report that Flake’s compromise brought tears to Coon’s eyes.

COONS LAMENTS: “I am facing a Senate without Sen. Flake, without Jeff, without Sen. McCain and without Bob Corker.”

Kramerontheright.com believes that time cannot come soon enough.

FURTHER EVIDENCE of Senator Flake’s dependence on Senator McCain surfaced in a piece by Jesse Kelly in The Federalist, “Jeff Flake Isn’t A Truth-Seeker, He’s A Coward.”

Kelly relates the time when he was making the rounds of the Arizona delegation seeking endorsements for a run for the House. Recalling his visit with Flake in his office, Kelly recalls that Flake didn’t ask his positions on taxes, abortion, immigration or anything else. He didn’t ask about his religious beliefs or his family.

“I asked for his endorsement. He didn’t say ‘yes.’ He didn’t say ‘no.’ He said something I’ll never forget, and to this day it makes my stomach turn. He looked me right in the eye and said, ‘what did John McCain say?’”

REGARDING FLAKE’S VOTE for confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) suggested, “He (Flake) should follow his heart, but I want Jeff to take his brain with him.”

I couldn’t help but be reminded of the scene from “The Wizard of Oz,” which you can view by clicking here.

LOOKING AHEAD – It’s imperative that Arizonans vote to elect Rep. Martha McSally to fill Flake’s seat in early or absentee voting or on November 6, 2018. She will be more than capable of making her own decisions.

“I can’t wait to get rid of Sen. Jeff Flake, who has turned into a full-on RINO. U.S. Rep Martha McSally will bring us back to center in the GOLP. Shed will be another leading national Republican from Arizona. She will bring honesty and truth to the position, unlike U.S. Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, who falsely represents herself as a moderate.” – Dan Ricketts, Chandler, AZ

A GOOD READ – Though Jonah Goldberg is not a supporter of President Trump, I recommend that you read his piece, “You Idiot Reporters Are Making It Worse,” in the National Review by clicking here. “Every 15 seconds,” Goldberg writes, “you’re demonstrating why millions of people love it when Trump calls you fake news.”

Offering advice to fellow journalists, Goldberg suggests that “You might consider why millions of people love it when Trump says you are the enemy of the people. You’re burning credibility at such a rate, you won’t have enough to get back to base when this all over.”

YOU MAY HAVE MISSED THIS – I didn’t. During Christine Blasey Ford’s testimony, she talked about a disagreement with her husband that surfaced over her desire to have a second front door installed on their home during remodeling during a couples therapy session. It was to alleviate symptoms of claustrophobia and panic attacks suffered from an alleged attempted rape by Judge Kavanaugh as a teenager. It was to give her an additional escape route.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) was more than eager to help Ford persuade the Committee, saying “Is that the reason for the second door – front door – is claustrophobia?” “Correct,” Ford quickly replied.

“Palo Alto city records show that a building permit for an additional room and exterior door was issued to Ford and her husband on Feb. 4, 2008 – more than four years before the May 2012 therapy session where, she says, she first identified Kavanaugh as her attacker,” according to Paul Sperry of RealClearinvestigations.

Since the front door was installed, we learn that it was in fact designed to provide a second entrance for a room she rented to an attorney and other tenants, including “Google interns,” as she casually mentioned and repeated by a smiling Feinstein during the hearing.
