Since President Trump’s election, I have chronicled the effort by the left to resist his every move. I have said over and over again that he just can’t win, and his decision to celebrate the 4th of July in a grand manner was no different, but again, they were the losers.
THE WORDS OF OUR FOUNDING FATHERS mean nothing to Democrats, as you know. The left constantly challenges the Constitution as outdated. So, the words of John Adams regarding the celebration of the 4th of July, penned in a letter to his wife Abigail, would have little meaning to them.
“I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding generations, as the great anniversary festival,” Adams wrote, “It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance by solemn act of devotion to God almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shews, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations from one end of the continent to the other from this time forward forever more.”
All OF THE DEMOCRAT CANDIDATES for president accused President Trump of politicizing the holiday displaying Army tanks and military flyovers over the nation’s capital, while each of them plied for votes while walking in 4th of July parades or at barbeques across Iowa. Some cleverly appeared in Independence, Iowa. But they weren’t politicking. Hypocrites all.
President Trump is arguably the most patriotic U.S. president in modern history. He adopted the motto of “America First,” and the slogan “Make America Great Again,” much to the chagrin of the left.
“The myth of America as the greatest nation on earth is best outdated and worst, wildly inaccurate. If you look at data, the U.S. is really just O.K.” – New York Times
He frequently speaks of the red, white and blue of the American flag and didn’t hesitate to take on the National Football League over its stance on standing during the playing of the National Anthem. And most recently, his disappointment in U.S. Soccer Team’s Megan Rapinoe.
For days leading up to the President’s Salute to America, the left was sure his speech would be like those he gives at his popular rallys; partisan, with reminders of all that he has accomplished.
“If he mentions Make America Great Again, it’s political,” said the lightweight Democrat strategist Jessica Tarlov on Fox.
But, alas, his speech was an upbeat account of America’s exceptionalism (sorry Democrats) and featured a number of Americans – military heroes, inventors and others – who built our nation over its 243 years.
The announcement that Abrams tanks would be on display in Washington caused Attorney Lawrence Tribe, a frequent guest on CNN, to write, unbelievably, that “The resemblance to days before Tiananmen Square is chilling.” OMG
Embarrassingly, Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, the non-voting delegate to the House of Representatives, was concerned with the damage the 70-ton tank would cause to capital streets, and worried about who would pay for it.
Other members of Congress showed their lack of knowledge when they had to be reminded that military weaponry paraded down Washington streets for past presidents, including President Obama. Remember that, Joe?
“Does the M1 Abrams belong at a celebration of America’s independence from Great Britain?” writes Stephen Green of PJ Media. “You’re damn right it does.”
“Today is a civilian celebration of the liberty which makes America great, but it should also have an element of the military which secured that liberty in 1781, and continues to protect it to this day. The Armed Forces of the United States aren’t tools of oppression, but righteous defenders of liberty at home and abroad.
“To say that they don’t deserve some small representation on this of all days, is an implicit rejection of the liberty that they fought to defend, and a furtive endorsement of the tyranny they’ve saved us from time and again,” Green believes.
Unfortunately, nobody explained all of this to Apology Joe Biden, who says that President Trump’s plan to hold a military parade “misses the point about why we are the country we are … he misses the essence of who we are.”
Let’s face it, Joe … you don’t have a clue as to who we are. And you know that if President Obama, rather than President Trump, had planned this parade it would be a glorious event.
Biden said “the U.S. should lead not by the example of our power, but by the power of our example.” Like Obama’s make no mistakes, lead from behind doctrine?
Steven Hayward, writing in Power Line, appropriately captured to left’s criticism with his paraphrasing an old Will Rogers joke: “It’s no trouble at all getting re-elected in 2020 when you have the whole Democrat Party (and its media adjuncts) working for you.”
The opportunists on the left, including Democrat presidential candidate Julian Castro, saw the Betsy Ross flag controversy as another means to exhibit their ignorance in history. “To associate the 1776 American flag with slavery is to miss the purpose and genius of the American Revolution,” notes Bryan Preston in PJ Media.
Isn’t it interesting that our first black president, Barack Obama, had no problem with the Betsy Ross flag hanging behind him during his inauguration, and it was at the Betsy Ross House in Pennsylvania on June 14, 2019 that immigrants raised their right hands and took the oath of citizenship beneath the Betsy Ross flag?
May God continue to bless the United States of America.
