Does Klobuchar have what it takes? … the doomsday candidates … Patrick is out … ‘get Trump’ continues … the ‘real’ abusers … Swamp income … an education proposal with merit … border arrests down … and Virginia Dems push for gun control

Here are my observations and opinions from my select news of the day.

DARK HORSE Democrat presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar surprised some of us with her third-place finish in New Hampshire, defeating Elizabeth Warren and Apology Joe Biden and the other “also rans.”

She received an infusion of a couple million bucks after her Des Moines debate performance, but will she get the funds to continue to compete, and does she have the grassroots people in Nevada and South Carolina, for starters?

THE DOOMSDAY CANDIDATES – We have nearly ten more months of hearing Bernie Sanders telling us that President Trump is “the most dangerous president in the modern history of this country,” and Pete Buttigieg saying “the stakes couldn’t be higher.”

DID YOU KNOW that Deval Patrick has withdrawn his candidacy for the Democrat nomination for president?  What?  Who is Deval Patrick?

AS EXPECTED, the Democrat effort to remove President Trump from office made him stronger, Craig Bannister of CNS News writes on new Rasmussen Poll results.

When asked, “has the unsuccessful attempt to remove President Trump from office made him weaker or stronger?” 55 percent responded “stronger” and 23 percent said “no impact.”  Just 16 percent felt it made him weaker.

Even a plurality of self-described liberals (48 percent) agree it makes Trump stronger, and moderates (60 percent).  Of course, conservatives indicated it made him stronger (71 percent).

In addition, when asked, “Should House Democrats continue their efforts to remove President Trump from office, or should they focus on other issues?” 62 percent responded that they should focus on other issues.

MEANWHILE, the “get Trump” drumbeat continues in the Democrat Party, as we knew it would.  The sour-grapes crowd accused the president of retribution when the Vindman brothers were reassigned out of the National Security Council and  Ambassador Gordon Sondland was recalled.

Now, Chuck Schumer, Richard Blumenthal, Adam Schiff, and other sufferers of Trump Derangement Syndrome, are again attacking him for abuse of power by commenting on the outrageous sentence facing former confidant Roger Stone. Trump noted that two of the prosecutors in the Stone case are rogue prosecutors from the Mueller investigation.

Blumenthal wants Attorney General Bill Barr to resign and Kamala Harris wants Barr to testify.  He will testify on March 31, 2020 and again and I predict will calmly put the likes of Blumenthal and Harris in their place.

You may recall that the FBI converged on Stone’s residence at 3 a.m. with weapons drawn, while CNN, tipped off by the Deep State, taped the arrest of Stone in his pajamas.

While first-term offenders like Stone generally receive sentences of a few months, as the Wall Street Journal duly noted, the charges carry a 21-year maximum prison term.  Reports of a nine-year sentence for Stone have been mentioned.

They say Stone lied to Congress.  So did James Clapper, and he walks free.

THE “REAL” ABUSERS OF POWER – We patiently await the justice due Comey, McCabe, Rosenstein, Strzok, Page, the Ohr’s, Yates, Clapper and Brennan by U.S. Attorney John Durham.

WHILE MINIMUM WAGE AND EQUAL PAY are part of every candidate’s campaign speech, you won’t hear them talk about the pay of federal workers in the swamp – the nation’s capital, Maryland and Virginia.  You see, an OpenTheBooks report reveals that for the first time there are more residents there who make more than $100,001 (sic) than residents of any other group, making federal workers generally among the highest paid in the nation, according to Paul Bedard of the Washington Examiner.

LONG OVERDUE – Every time I hear Democrat candidates talk about more funding for schools, I cringe.  Schools and education are state and local issues.

President Trump is results oriented and sees that past federal government efforts to support a one size fits all education approach for the entire country has not worked.

His proposed budget would consolidate nearly all competitive K-12 grants into a single $20 billion block grant that would be distributed to the states.  It would get the federal government out of decisions on how to spend the money and allow for local control.  In the process it would trim $5 billion from the Department of Education.

The budget expands the school-choice program, which provides tax incentives for people who voluntarily donate funds to state-based opportunity grants for students. Children can use these grants to find the right school for them.

Since Democrats see power in federal government control of our lives, I expect this common-sense attempt to allow state and local governments to best fund their needs is unlikely to gain approval by Congress.

Instead, Congressmen will go to the media with ‘Trump wants to cut $5 billion from education.’

THE BORDER NEAR NOGALES, ARIZONA (charlieriedel/ap)

HAVE YOU HEARD that arrests on our Southern Border dropped for the eighth straight month in January, the lowest in two years?  It can be attributed to our agreements with Mexico and the Central American countries, more border patrol officers, border wall repairs and newly constructed walls, and a leader in President Trump, who has promised to preserve our sovereignty and keep us safe. Still needed is an improved bipartisan agreement on asylum.

VIRGINIA MADE IT EASIER for future Republican election success, because of it’s House of Delegates’ passage of a gun control proposal, legislation that includes a ban on the sale of several firearms defined as “assault weapons.”

Virginia residents who currently own these types of firearms will not be forced to participate in a mandatory buyback program initially considered by Democrats, but the bill gives the state authority to confiscate certain types of magazines that are considered “high capacity.”

Last month, the legislature passed a bill that included universal background checks, red flag laws and a law limiting citizens to one firearm purchase a month.

Both bills now head to the state senate, where Democrats hold a narrow 21-19 majority.  Gov. Ralph Northam has made gun control a top priority and supports both bills.  Gun control initiatives have been met with backlashes in the past.

May God continue to bless the United States of America.
