“Swift Boat Kerry” goes overboard

“Climate change can now be considered another weapon of mass destruction, perhaps the world’s most fearsome weapon of destruction,” Secretary of State John Kerry said in a speech Feb. 16, in Indonesia.  That’s correct.  It’s no joke. Go ahead, read it again.

There’s more.  “When I think about the array of global climate – of global threats – think about this:  terrorism, epidemics, poverty, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction – all challenges that know no borders – the reality is that climate change ranks right up there with every single one of them,” he added.

Sounding more like Al Gore, Kerry said, “The science of climate change is leaping out at us like a scene from a 3D movie.  It’s warning us; it’s compelling us to act.”

There was no mention of Gore, but Kerry did refer to Maurice Strong, as “an early leader on climate change,” who he heard speak at an UN conference in Rio de Janeiro.  “Every bit of evidence I’ve seen persuades me that we are on a course leading to tragedy,” he quoted Strong.  Incidentally, that was 22 years ago.

Quoting Strong is typical of the incompetence in our State Department.  In my Feb. 9, post, Bundlers receive ambassadorships, I mentioned the inept briefing of the ambassadorial nominees.  I wonder if Kerry is aware of Strong’s shady past, during which he was caught up in a series of UN scandals and conflicts of interest that led him to cut his ties to the organization.  He is a self-appointed expert.

Of course, Kerry used the Obama administration talking points, referring to the thousands of the world’s leading scientists who agree that climate change is happening and that human activity is responsible. He said, “When 97 percent of scientists agree on anything, we need to listen, and we need to respond.” I wonder how many of these scientists received research grants from environmental groups.

In a recently released Gallup Poll surveying the most important problems facing this country today, with problems divided into economic and non-economic concerns, climate change and global warming were not mentioned by respondents.  Unemployment/jobs and the economy in general topped the list of 12 economic problems.  While dissatisfaction with government and healthcare were the only double-digit problems among the 35 non-economic concerns, the environment/pollution ranked 17th with just one percent responding.

Climate change is the latest Obama administration distraction to try to get our minds off the economy, jobs and the Benghazi, IRS and ObamaCare scandals.
