Tip to newspaper skimmers

Study: Keystone Pollution May Be More Than Figured,

That headline in the USA Today* naturally caught my eye.  What have those whacky environmentalists come up with now to further delay this project?”

Keystone (rtcc.org)

The left-leaning media will try almost anything to paint the approval of the Keystone XL pipeline as environmentally unsound. (rtcc.org.)

“The much-debated Keystone XL pipeline could produce four times more global warming pollution than the State Department calculated earlier this year, a new study concludes,” read the lead.

I wonder how many newspaper headline skimmers were taken in by the headline or that lead paragraph.  If so, chalk up more to the rolls of low-information people in the country.  If they did read further, they would have learned that the left-leaning USA Today felt compelled to publish the new estimates from scientists at the Stockholm Environment Institute.  Surely you’ve heard of the STI.

“The U.S. estimates didn’t take into account that the added oil from the pipeline would drop prices by about $3 a barrel, spurring consumption that would create more pollution,” the researchers said.  They predict greenhouse gas emissions will increase by as much as 121 million tons of carbon dioxide a year.

OMG!  Chicken Little at Gannett Publishing strikes again.
