On second thought

In my March 29, 2016 post, Court nominee not a ‘centrist,’ I wrote that Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) had agreed to meet with President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland.

Senator Lisa Murkowski has had second thoughts on meeting with Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland. (drew angerer photo for the new york times)

Yesterday, she changed her mind and will support Sen. Charles Grassley’s (R-IA) decision not to hold hearings. Could it be that she saw her reelection slip away as angry voters oppose weak-kneed Republicans?

Sen Jerry Moran (R-KS) also reconsidered his plan to meet with Garland, however, Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL), also up for reelection, met with Garland.

Jobs, immigration and the war on Islamic terrorism are high priorities for the next president, but of equal importance is the advantage of appointing someone to the Supreme Court who will follow the Constitution.
