The third of six officers facing charges stemming from the death of Freddie Gray following his April 2015 arrest and death in Baltimore was found not guilty. Cesar Goodman, who drove the transport vehicle carrying Gray, was acquitted of the most serious charges.
You will recall that Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake last year authorized a $6.4 million settlement with the family of Gray to avoid “costly and protracted litigation … making it more difficult for our city to heal.” Yet, people outside the courthouse today were seen carrying signs reading “Justice 4 Freddie,” while the Baltimore police stand ready for protests and the Maryland National Guard are on standby.
With the first three officers winning acquittals, the question of the day is, will Baltimore proceed with the trials for the other three. Why not, it appears the city has an unlimited budget and is oblivious to the embarrassment being brought upon it.
Just a reminder: Baltimore has been under Democrat control since 1967.
