Warren goes hoarse in Iowa … ‘The Times’ at it again … Biden’s candidacy … Democrats detached from reality … impeach Trump for what? … not all Dems are on board with radical left … advice for Mitt … and laugh-of-the-day

Here are my observations and opinions on my elected news of the day.

SHE’S OFF AND RUNNING, BUT … Sen. Elizabeth Warren, as noted here on January 3, 2019, used Instagram at home to kick-off her 2020 presidential campaign after excusing her viewers saying she had to “get me a beer” and thank her husband for being there (it’s his house too, isn’t it, Liz?).

She appeared at the Orpheum Theater in Sioux City, Iowa on Saturday and you knew that the Indian DNA subject would surface. She did too, admitted, “I’m not a person of color. I’m not a citizen of any tribe. Tribal citizenship is very different from ancestry. Tribes and only tribes determine tribal citizenship and I respect that difference.”

Too bad she didn’t consult the Cherokee Nation before doing the DNA thing and making a fool of herself.

Near the end of her Iowa stump, she was forced to address a group of supporters with a hoarse throat. Poor baby. She would be no match campaigning against Trump.

DO YA THINK? – JWF writing @JammieWF says: “So the media’s gonna analyze the racial makeup of the crowd like they do with Republicans, right?”

TURNING A STORY AGAINST REPUBLICANS – I chose not to give coverage to the newly elected Democrat from Michigan, who told an audience, “We’re going to impeach the mother******.”

John Hinderaker, writing in Power Line reminded me of a favorite ploy of the liberal press, that when a Democrat does or says something stupid or immoral, they turn it to make it a Republican story.

“Republicans, eager to portray Democrats as out to destroy Mr. Trump’s presidency, piled on criticism of Ms. Tlaib – some of it racially charged,” is how the leftist New York Times covered Republican reaction to her vulgar statement.

The Times, however, didn’t cite a single instance of “racially tinged” criticism of her. “Racially tinged” is a phrase leftists use when they want to smear someone who hasn’t said anything about race at all,” Hinderaker remarked.

Joe Biden (news.sky.com)

“BIDEN HAS NO CHANCE of being nominated for president,” a friend and subscriber tells me. He’s probably right, but he’s currently leading all polls. Biden has a sizeable ego and may find it difficult to tell his party “no.” And how does he gracefully back away from his remarks about fighting Trump behind the gym, even if it was in jest. I understand he will decide what he will do in a couple weeks.

DEMOCRATS ARE DETACHED FROM REALITY, writes Michael Goodwin in the New York Post and lays it out in plain language with the opening sentences of his opinion piece:

“In its common definition, the job of president of the United States is to deliver peace and prosperity. Donald Trump is doing well on both fronts, so let’s impeach the bastard.

“As insane as it sounds, that and only that is what many Democrats have in mind. Impeachment, or deal by a thousand investigations, is the heart of their planTtr

“The implications are staggering – and a potential disaster for America.”

While commenting on the vulgar remark made by a newly elected representative from Michigan (I will not repeat her name), and the “jubilant leftist crowd” that cheered her on, Goodwin says “Never in modern times has there been such a disconnect between the opposition party and the realities of national life. The very talk of removing Trump, without evidence of an impeachable offense, is a stick in the eye to history and most Americans.”

“The relentless fixation on impeachment is a destructive decision that sacrifices national progress and security on the altar of partisan madness.”

IMPEACH TRUMP FOR WHAT? asks columnist Byron York. He notes that California Democrat Rep. Brad Sherman says that President Trump violated his constitutional oath to take care that the laws be faithfully executed because he “prevented, obstructed and impeded the administration of justice during a federal investigation by threatening, and then terminating James Comey.”

Texas Democrat Rep. Al Green seeks to remove Trump for “sowing discord among the people of the United States” with his comments on Charlottesville, transgender troops, Muslim immigration and NFL players who don’t stand for the national anthem. “Green’s resolution of impeachment did not really accuse Trump of committing high crimes and misdemeanors as president,” cites York, “It was, instead, an argument that Trump should be removed from office on grounds of bigotry.”

MEANWHILE, Oregon Republican Rep. Greg Walden, in a speech to moderate Republican Ripon Society, said, “I fully anticipate the Democrats will devote enormous resources to investigating anything and everything Trump.”

“The American people will want results,” said Walden, and the investigations can drag on for years. If the Democrats yield too much to their progressive activists, how will their grand plans ever make it through the Republican Senate or across the president’s desk? If they go too far, 2020 might look a lot like 2010.”

NOT ALL DEMOCRATS ARE ON BOARD – The editorial board of Investor’s Business Daily opined that “Some Democrats are warning their party about its drift toward socialist policies and its endless attacks on President Trump. Is there anyone left in the Democrat Party who will listen?”

IBD recalled that the liberal California Gov. Jerry Brown commented that he and his party is out of touch with the mainstream, even in liberal California. And made note of Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s Washington Post op-ed in which he blasted members of his own party for making “unrealistic ideological promises,” like a “federal jobs guarantee” and “universal free college.”

ADVICE FOR MITT from The American Spectator– “If Romney wants to make another run, he’ll have to up his act with a new gimmick, something better than knife-throwing at Trump’s back. Claiming we must avoid ‘politics of anger and fear’ sounds too much like Obama’s endless renditions of ‘It’s Not Who We Are.”

LAUGH-OF-THE-DAY – How can anyone take Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez seriously when she suggests those at the “tippy top” of the American economy should be taxed as high as 70 percent to support her massive government programs.

Milton Friedman probably turned over in his grave.

FINALLY, WHAT GENIUS AT ESPN thought it would be a good idea to have nattering nabobs on each sideline calling the national playoff game between Alabama and Clemson?  My remote was on mute for the entire game.  In addition, viewers were forced to watch the game on about two-thirds of the screen just so ESPN could show their reporters on the sidelines.  Ridiculous.

May God bless the United States of America.
