Trump axes meeting with Taliban … so long, John … Democrat hypocrisy … time to rethink TSA … leftist Maddow sued … does anyone care what Jagger thinks? … and laugh-of-the-day

Here are my observations and opinions of my selected news of the day.

MEETING AT CAMP DAVID – The planned meeting with Afghan and Taliban leadership at Camp David caused quite a stir, mostly because it was scheduled so close to the anniversary of 9/11.  However, there were those who simply didn’t want Taliban representatives entertained in that special venue.

ARAFAT OKAY, TALIBAN NOT OKAY (boomantribune.com)

Obama met with Gulf Arabs there, George W. Bush met there with Vladimir Putin and how about the famous meeting of Clinton with PLO terrorist Yasser Arafat?

As much as President Trump would like to resolve the 18-year Afghan mess and pull our troops out, like previous presidents, he saw the recent killings of our troops unforgiving and called off talks.  That’s leadership.

FAREWELL TO JOHN BOLTON, the president’s national security advisor, who submitted his resignation moments after being fired by the president.   Of course, the leftist media is making a big deal of the event – fired or resigned.  And they jumped at the opportunity to again question the turnover in the Trump administration. It doesn’t matter.

DEMOCRAT HYPOCRICY – Just as Democrats once wanted former disgraced FBI director James Comey fired, they were critical of President Trump’s dismissal of him.

It’s happening again with the firing of John Bolton. “(Bolton needs to) temper his instinct to commit our armed forces to conflicts around the globe,” said Chuck Schumer.  “(His nomination is a) grave threat to our nation’s security,” said Bob Menendez, echoing the Democrat Party’s view of Bolton as a hawk.

Don’t expect any Dems to applaud Trump’s decision.

THE AIRPORT TSA EXPERIENCE – “Save us from the pointless burdens of the TSA,” an article by Karol Markowicz in the New York Post, caught my eye because my wife was again the TSA’s target on our recent flights.

We don’t fly as often as we used to, but we secured TSA Precheck authorization and the new “real ID” driver’s licenses to make it as easy as possible to pass through security.  I doubt that we will sign up for the new procedure known as Clear.

Because of our age, we are no longer required to remove our belts and shoes,  however, my wife is subject to a near strip search every time we fly.  She has a pacemaker, so she must pass through the body scanning device.

That’s understandable, but each time she flies, she is then subject to a thorough pat down from the neck down.  As if that isn’t enough, her hands are swiped to determine if she has been handling explosives.  Incidentally, she is 5 feet tall and weighs just 120 pounds.

“After the (9/11) attacks, people demanded the government ‘do something,’ and ‘something’ is exactly what it did,” writes Markowicz.“ It took over the role of airport security and bloated its to its current size, with more than 50,000 employees and a budget of more than $7 billion.”

Now, 18 years after 9/11, it’s time to rethink our airport security system.  Internal investigations have revealed that the TSA routinely miss more than half – and sometimes as much as 95 percent – of explosives and weapons in undercover tests.

I’m not sure what should be done, but I do know that a little white-haired lady with a pacemaker shouldn’t trigger an automatic full body pat down, especially after her entire body was just viewed by the machine.

ONE AMERICA NEWS NETWORK is suing MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, her network and its parent corporations for calling it the network of Russian propaganda. The suit claims Maddow “maliciously and recklessly” smeared the network by saying it “really, literally, is paid Russian propaganda.”

DOES ANYBODY CARE that Mick Jagger and Donald Sutherland are concerned over President Trump’s rollback of Obama’s unrealistic environmental controls?

LAUGH-OF-THE-DAY – Apology Joe Biden continues to be an embarrassment.  In a recent appearance, he mixed up Charlotte, North Carolina with Charlottesville, Virginia, and referred to President George W. Bush as the “last president.”

May God continues to bless the United States of America.
