Here are my observations and opinions from my selected news of the day.
HUMAN RIGHTS VS HUMAN RIGHTS – After President Trump has met with a leader of a country that doesn’t offer basic human rights, we often hear a bleeding heart member of the media ask him if he brought up human rights during his discussion.
The question has surfaced time and again during the lengthy trade negotiations we have had with China, a country that doesn’t recognize human rights, and is known for surveilling its citizens, and imprisoning or executing them for political reasons.
Kramerontheright believes that Americans have to decide which they prefer – fair trade to benefit our farmers, manufacturers and our wide-range of businesses who employ millions of our citizens, or tank our economy in pursuit of the improbable fantasy of a democratic China? Are we interested in our human rights or theirs?
Certainly, you’ve heard the concerns of our farmers only a few months into the on and off negotiations with China. Imagine what it would be like if we insisted on human rights before signing a trade agreement. Forget it.
I’m reminded of the previous administrations who were desirous of nation building in some far off third-world country. Trying to force our version of a democracy. It hasn’t been successful and I believe President Trump opposes it.
Human rights also arose during the president’s negotiations with North Korea’s Kim Jung Un over the effort to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.
After the president’s meeting with Kim Jung Un in Singapore, critics questioned how aggressively he pressed Kim on human rights during the summit, and whether the president demanded changes before lifting sanctions or reducing our presence on the peninsula. How naïve.
Looking back over the Obama administration’s negotiations with Iran, human rights were not on the table, nor were Iran’s testing of missiles and the terror it exported. Obama was only interested in pushing ahead on his flawed nuclear deal, and curried favor with the Iranian regime.
I recall how he was silent when the Iranian people took to the streets in 2009, an opportunity many feel he missed to advance human rights. Strange, because he was always preaching human rights.
Here’s a suggestion. We provide about a quarter of the United Nation’s operating budget, and it has a Human Rights Commission to address its members’ compliance. Go for it.
THAT WAS THEN AND NOW IS NOW – Remember when billionaire Tom Steyer was passing around big bucks to Democrat candidates who supported his green policy? Now, as a dubious Democrat candidate for president, Steyer is predicting the end of the world if Republicans win in 2020 – not because of climate change, but because of … wait for it … a lack of “fairness.”
Speaking at the Ohio Democrat Party’s 2019 State Dinner, Steyer warned that “We are in the fight of our lives. Everything is on the table in 2020. They (Republicans) think so too, because they think if they lose in 2020 the rules are going to be fair and they’re never going to win again. And they’re right. If we win in 2020, they’re done forever. But it’s scary for us, too, because if they win it could be the end of the world.”
So, there you have it. Democrats are going to win on promoting “fairness.” That’s odd, everything I hear is focused on their “unfair” approach to impeachment.
I DON’T UNDERSTAND the excitement over learning of CNN President Jeff Zucker’s vendetta against President Trump revealed in leaked video. In it, he says “Let’s just stay very focused on impeachment. We’re moving towards impeachment.”
We’ve seen nearly three years of CNN’s effort to undermine the Trump presidency.
SPEAKING OF IMPEACHMENT – The leftist New York Times and Washington Post have both called on Speaker Nancy Pelosi to hold a vote of the full House to make the “impeachment inquiry official, but she’s not listening. She’s been suckered in by Rep. Adam Schiff, who is making up the rules from day to day. Pelosi and the more than 400 members of the House are allowing a dozen or so committee members to destroy the traditions of the House.
Could it be that Pelosi has lost confidence in any of the Democrat candidates for president being capable of beating President Trump, and is convinced that impeachment is the only way to remove him from office?
As I was about to push “publish,” Pelosi announced that she would not be calling for a vote on impeachment.
MIKE BLOOMBERG may also be feeling that the current candidates can’t win because he is said to be floating the idea of running after all.
PONDER THIS – If you are seriously opposed to the human rights of any country, you can do your part by refusing to buy their products.
May God continue to bless the United States of America.
