Here are my observations and opinions on the transfer of the articles from the House to the Senate on Wednesday.
After more than three years of covert activities by the Deep State – DOJ and FBI holdovers from the Obama administration – to undermine the presidency of Donald Trump failed, including the appointment of a special counsel to investigate possible collusion with Russia, the Democrats’ last hope fell on Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
After failing to get bipartisan support for impeachment, which she told us was necessary to prevent further division in the country, she caved to the extreme left of her party and decided to proceed anyway.
During a series of tedious hearings in the House, the decision was made to forego several key witnesses, unwilling to take the time to allow the courts to review subpoena orders. It became a matter of urgency.
However, that urgency faded as Pelosi failed to deliver the articles to the Senate following the December 18, 2019 vote, and she was said to have a strategy in doing so.
Finally, on Wednesday morning, she tried to put lipstick on a pig. In an attempt to put herself on a patriotic pedestal, she opened her remarks with a few words from the Declaration of Independence – When in the course of human events – Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address – Four score and … Thomas Payne – These are the times that try men’s souls – and even Longfellow – Listen my children and you shall hear … all in attempt to build the occasion into a momentous occasion.
She failed again. Her uninspiring halted, stuttering performance fell flat on an unimpressed media in the press room, as she proceeded to introduce the House impeachment managers.
Later, Pelosi took to the floor of the House, followed by one of her minions with an easel bearing a large poster with the words, To the Republic for which it stands … which he placed to her side.
And what does she say? “This is about the Constitution of the United States and it’s important for the president to know, and Vladimir Putin to know, that voters in America should decide who our president is, not Putin and Russia.”
I’m beginning to think she really isn’t playing with a full deck. What has Putin got to do with the articles of impeachment?
It didn’t end there. The prayerful Pelosi, who frequently reminds us of the seriousness of the occasion, then signed the official document of the articles of impeachment, taking special pens from a silver tray, after which she presented one to each manager with a big smile on her face, followed by a photo-op.
The House managers, led by the secretary of the House, then physically walked the articles of impeachment to the Senate. Democrats like to say that Trump acts like a king, but it was the Democrat House that rolled out the pomp and circumstances of a monarchy. Missing were the fanfare trumpets.
All theater. Another “F” for Pelosi.
By late afternoon Wednesday, when the cameras moved to the Senate floor, a super-serious Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, offered no comment and stoically presented the schedule and read the rules for the trial without a hint of theatrics. Finally, an adult on the scene.
May God continue to bless the United States of America.
