Democrats target ‘whites’ … a smart move? … Biden calls Trump a racist … Pelosi calls fed law enforcers ‘stormtroopers’ … it’s my turn on Lewis … and a different look at state death rates from Covid-19

Here are my observations and opinions from my select news of the day.

‘WHITES’ ARE MENTIONED 15 TIMES, all damning, in an 80-page draft of the 2020 Democrat National Committee platform currently circulating Washington to reinforce that Joe Biden is the best suited to improve matters for minorities, according to Paul Bedard in the Washington Examiner.

With frequent mentions of white supremacy, the 15 references to “whites,” always with a small “w” compared to the capitalization of Blacks, Latinos, Asians and Native Americans, note how whites are better off at the expense of others.

The platform lends support to the Black Lives Matter movement and a pledge to root out racism.

BIDEN EMBARRASSES AGAIN – During a virtual town hall sponsored by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Democrat nominee Joe Biden called President Trump America’s first racist president.

The statement emanated from a question about Trump’s reference to the coronavirus as the “Wuhan” or “China” virus, Biden accused the president of spreading racism.  “Look what he’s doing now. He’s blaming everything on China.”

Biden is so out of touch that he probably cannot imagine that there are SEIU members who agree with Trump that China is to blame for the virus.

“No sitting president has ever done this,” Biden said.  “Never, never, never.  We’ve had racists, and they’ve existed, they’ve tried to get elected president.  He’s the first one.

“This is an insult to the intelligence of Black voters,” who know about Biden’s past, responded Katrina Pierson of Trump’s campaign.  “No one should take lectures on racial justice from Joe Biden.”

THE INSULTS FROM THE LEFT don’t stop with the “racist” charges.  Democrat Nancy Pelosi, who has used the “racist” accusation with the president in the past, continues to play in the mud.  Now she has referred to our federal law enforcement officers, who protect our federal buildings in Portland, as “stormtroopers.”

The smarmy Sen. Chuck Schumer called their protective work, “so un-American, so in keeping with third-world countries and dictatorships.”  He’s so out of touch that he doesn’t see what Antifa is doing to Portland.

It brought forth a criticism of their camouflage uniforms, the same uniforms that went unnoticed when they wore them while aiding hurricane and flood victims.

Who’s being divisive?

OKAY, IT’S MY TURN – I’ve been reading the glowing remembrances of Rep. John Lewis since his passing a week ago. They all reflect on his career of fighting for civil rights, referring to him as a “civil rights icon,” “civil rights leader,” and “civil rights titan.”

I have no argument with those labels. I’ve seen the footage of him being attacked by police during the Selma March in 1965, and am aware of his efforts on behalf of civil rights since then. His civil rights legacy is assured.

However, as I perused those obituary-style pieces, mostly in left-leaning publications (two on the right), I noted an absence of other significant Lewis accomplishments. Were the authors uninterested, or did they discover the void as I did?

Searching his sponsored and cosponsored legislation that became law in the 114th, 115th and 116th Congresses (2015-2020), I found it a record consisting primarily of commemorations and post office namings.

Perhaps David Cohen, in his Politico obituary, “John Lewis, civil rights icon and longtime congressman dies,” researched Lewis’ record before noting Lewis was “not an author of much in the way of major legislation.”

You will recall that Lewis said he didn’t believe Trump was “a legitimate president,” and refused to attend his inauguration, as he did at President George W. Bush’s inauguration.

In a Twitter, Trump accused Lewis of being, “All talk, talk, talk … no action or results. Sad!”

A year later, the “soft-spoken” Lewis said of Trump, “I think he’s a racist.”

It must have galled Lewis that President Trump was able to accomplish more for the black community than either he or President Obama.  Record low unemployment, improved wages, prison reform and permanent funding for black colleges and universities.

THE LEFT WOULD HAVE YOU BELIEVE that the red states of Florida, Texas and Arizona are the worst states facing the deadly Covid-19, but Statista.com reports that as of July 24, 2020, Florida’s death rate is 26 per 100,000 people, Texas’ death rate is 16 per 100,000 and Arizona’s death rate is 42 per 100,000.

Meanwhile, on the left, New Jersey leads with a death rate of 177 per 100,000, followed by New York with 168, Connecticut with 124, and Massachusetts with 123.

The left propaganda machine at work.

May God continue to bless the United States of America.
