Standing Up Against Corporate Wokeness

Commentary

IN THE AFTERMATH of the foolish move by Major League Baseball and CEOs at Delta, Coca Cola, et al, covered in my last post, I thought you would find these views interesting:

“The rush by corporate leaders to denounce Georgia’s new voting law will rank in infamy as one of the most cowardly, cynical and socially destructive moves in modern American history.” – Gerard Baker, The Wall Street Journal

“It’s jaw-dropping to see powerful American institutions not just permit themselves to be bullied, but join in the bullying themselves.  (Those) dabbling in behaving like a woke parallel government will invite serious consequences if they become a vehicle for far-left mobs to hijack our country from outside the constitutional order.” –  Mitch McConnell, Senate Minority Leader

In a letter to Robert Manfred, Major League Baseball Commissioner, Sen. Marco Rubio wrote of the “bigger impact (of moving the All-Star game out of Atlanta) on countless minority-owned businesses in and around Atlanta, (more than) the new election law ever will.”

A LITTLE INSIDE BASEBALL – Manfred and the team owners caved to the Players’ Alliance. They would have simply refused to play in Atlanta.

“Since Major League Baseball now appears eager to use its ‘platform’ to demonstrate ‘unwavering support’ for fundamental rights, will you cease your relationship with the Chinese Government, which at this very moment is committing genocide against the Uyghurs …”  Marco Rubio, Senator of Florida

Separately, in a Tweet @SenRubioPress, he asked Commissioner Manfred “will you resign as a member of the Augusta National Golf Club too.”

Twelve days ago, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed into law a sweeping Republican-sponsored voter suppression bill that includes new restrictions on voting by mail, greater GOP legislative control over state and county election officials and a prohibition against outside groups giving food and water to people waiting in line to vote.”USA Today columnist Christine Brennan, who obviously hasn’t read the law.

Finally, this unusual bit of breath of fresh air from the irascible sports commentator Charles Barkley:

“Man, I think most white people and black people are great people.  I really believe that in my heart, but I think our system is set up where our politicians, whether they’re Republicans or Democrats, are designed to make us not like each other so they can keep their grasp of money and power.

“They divide and conquer.  I truly believe in my heart that most white people and black people are awesome people, but we’re so stupid following our politicians, whether they’re Republicans or Democrats, and their only job is, ‘Hey, let’s make these people not like each other.  We don’t live in their neighborhoods, we all got money, let’s make rich people and poor people not like each other, let’s scramble the middle class.  I truly believe that in my heart.

BUMBLING PRESIDENT BIDEN repeatedly lied about the content of the Georgia voting bill while commenting on the MLB decision to move the All-Star game from Atlanta.  After the actual content was revealed, he had his Press Secretary Jen Psaki attempting to walk it back somewhat.

Earlier, in an interview with ESPN, Biden said, “I think today’s professional athletes are acting responsibly. I strongly support their doing that.”  In his rambling he pandered the players adding, “people look to them. They’re leaders.”

FORMER PRESIDENT TRUMP accused Major League Baseball leaders of being “afraid of the radical left Democrats.”  He called for a “boycott of baseball and all the woke companies that are interfering with free and fair elections.”

TEXAS GOV. GREG ABBOTT won’t have any part of the politicization of baseball, and informed the Texas Rangers that he was looking forward to throwing out the first ball until MLB adopted the false narrative about Georgia’s voting law.  In addition, he indicated that he would not seek to be the host state for any future MLB event, including the World Series and the All-State game.

In an interview, he put corporations on notice that, while he welcomed them to the Lone Star state, they best stick to their business.

Now, more than ever … may God continue to bless the United States of America.
