‘Old Joe’ Spins Tales While Ignoring Urgency of ‘Rescue’

Commentary

HE DID IT AGAIN – You may recall my May 7, 2021 plea to “Old Joe” to cut the home spun folk lore tales, repeating stories of his dad … “A job is a lot more than a paycheck, Joey … it’s about your respect, your dignity, your place in the community.” Just three days later, during his May 10, 2021 press conference on the economy, he did it again.

Obviously, feeling the need to address the narrative picked up by conservative media, that people are being paid to stay home rather than go to work, “Old Joe” responded with “we don’t see much evidence of that.”  And again, he followed with his familiar tale:

“Americans want to work. (repeating) Americans want to work.  And as my dad used to say, a job is about a lot more than a paycheck; it’s about your dignity, your place in the community, being able to look your kid in the eye and say, everything is going to be okay.”

Don’t expect the media on the left to criticize the incentives not to work.  Just like they didn’t call him on his boasts of the American Rescue Plan. “Today, we’re opening a portal for state and local government to apply for their … the first funds from the American Rescue Plan,” he proudly proclaimed.

He spoke of money being distributed now to make it possible for “an awful lot of educators, first responders, sanitation workers to go back to work, (and) assistance to tens of thousands of restaurants and bars across the country. Today, we’re sending out the first relief checks to 16,000 hard-hit restaurants with help for many more to follow.”

As “Old Joe” talked about the need to stay focused on creating jobs and building back better for tomorrow, he again pridefully pointed to the American Rescue Plan … “it’s just that: a rescue plan … it’s to get us out of the crisis and back on the track.”

NO ONE QUESTIONED how he interprets “rescue,” a word generally used to describe coming the aid of someone in danger or distress.  No one asked, ‘What kind of rescue plan is it that takes two months from the bill signing to get those funds out?’  It was so urgent, that he urged Congress to get it to his desk for signing.

The bill, first proposed on January 14, 2021 and finally signed on March 11, 2021, was said to “speed up the United States recovery from the economic and health effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing recession.”

Ahhh … big government at work.

NOW THAT SAME BIG GOVERNMENT wants to remake our election system into a federal system, giving them even more power.

ON THE SUBJECT OF ELECTIONS, you may have heard that Arizona’s Maricopa County, the county with some two million voters, is now in the process of hand-counting 2020 elections ballots.  Then Arizona Republic’s two leftist columnists, Laurie Roberts and E. J Montini, are attacking the procedure on a near daily basis.

One would think that the purpose of the audit is to overturn the 2020 election, but it’s designed to verify the integrity of Arizona voting procedures and determine if changes are required to assure the public that future elections will be on the up and up.

Judging from the letters to the editor column, the left-leaning readers of the paper are believing the attacks, and worship the fake news the two columnists continue to fabricate.

However, at lease one writer, Lee Calamaio of Gilbert, Arizona, was unwilling to assume that Arizona’s voting system “is just fine … sit back and trust the system.”  He thanked the naybobs for “advising us of the perils of questioning anything.  Just ride along fat, dumb and happy. I’m blessed to have these ‘experts’ available to guide me.”

He closed his letter with a tongue-in-cheek admonishment of Republicans, “Hands off trying to find out if things were honest.  Honesty has no place anymore.”

IT’S GROW A SPINE DAY in the U.S. House of Representatives Wednesday.  Will our representatives give Liz Cheney the boot?  They had better.

Nancy Pelosi came out in support of Cheney, but as David Catron of the American  Spectator asks in his piece, “Will the Left Respect Liz Cheney in the Morning?” … “Of course not, when they’re done with her, they will treat her with the disdain she deserves.”

Now, more than ever, may God continue to bless the United States of America.
