THEY’RE STILL OUT TO GET HIM – Former President Trump. Who else?
Officially, it’s the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi has named Rep. Bennie Thompson, who she knows has an obsession with Trump’s guilt, to chair the committee. And she has added RINO Liz Cheney to the committee.
Wait a minute. Wasn’t the president formally accused of incitement in the second impeachment, after which he was acquitted in a post presidential Senate trial?
It’s the New Get Trump Committee, as columnist Byron York refers to it in his newsletter. “(Thompson’s) already decided who to blame. The task now is just to formalize the verdict.” He believes Trump created a “unified plan” to incite and then carry out the right, according to York.
Reportedly, trials for participants in the riot will not take place until February 2022 and will last into the summer. The Democrat plan is to keep the issue and Trump’s alleged role in the news going into the midterms. They’re counting on challenging Republican candidates who support Trump.
And, they’re hoping voters, tiring of the drumbeat of Trump inciting the riot, will sour them on his running in 2024.
Remember Rep. Adam Schiff? The guy who, for years, knowingly perpetuated the lie about the Russian collusion? Well, he’s on the committee, and recently told MSNBC that they were only interested in getting to the bottom off what happened on January 6. Yeah, right.
Although he initially criticized the formation of the committee, Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is expected to name five people to join it.
FLASHBACK TO JANUARY 6 – You will recall the tale initially circulated by Rep. Alexandria Casio-Cortez, who said she was traumatized when there was pounding on the door of her office on the day of the riot. It was later revealed that not only is her office nowhere near where the rioting was taking place, it was a Capitol policeman who was pounding on the door, checking on her safety.
Now, six months later, members of the media are talking about their experiences, and how lasting effects have taken a toll on them. Some even say they are having trouble sleeping, and have difficulty returning to the site where they experienced trauma. Because of it, they are grappling with how to cover the post-riot events.
Their stories are similar to those of some Congressmen, though it has been determined that no reporter or Congressman was physically harmed during the breaching of the building.
OVER THE EDGE – Matthew Dowd, a political strategist often called upon by MSNBC to comment in opposition to President Trump and the Republican Party, told Joy Reid that the country is in a worse place after January 6, than after the 9/11 attack because there’s no accountability. In other words, we need to nail Trump.
MEANWHILE, the name of the police officer who shot and killed the unarmed Ashli Babbitt attempting to enter the Capitol, has not been released. As I wrote in an earlier blog, the investigation of the shooting revealed no evidence that, at the time the officer fired the single shot, he did not reasonably believe that it was necessary to do so in self-defense or in defense of the members of Congress and others evacuating the House chamber.
Maybe if she was black, the officer’s identification would now be known. We not only knew the name of the officer who held his knee on the neck of George Floyd, but those officers who stood by, within minutes of the event.
Ironically, in a piece written for RealClearInvestigations by Paul Sperry, he writes that video footage shows a black man dressed in a business suit, with jewelry, including a beaded bracelet and lapel pin, that match up with photos of a USCP officer who holds the rank of lieutenant.
Babbitt’s family is suing for the identification of the shooter.
FINALLY, from my memories file. In June 1993, while representing Honeywell at the Paris Air Show, a photographer with the show daily took the accompanying picture of me wearing a Phoenix Suns tie.
Twenty-eight years ago was a different time. The NBA wasn’t dabbling in politics and I was a big fan of the Charles Barkley-led Suns. The Suns lost to the Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls in game six.
While I would like to see the Suns win the NBA Championship, I am not the staunch Suns fan that I used to be. In fact, I have soured on most professional sports.
May God continue to bless the United States of America.
