My February Fool’s Day Recipient and Checking My Stack of Stuff

Commentary

MY FEBRUARY FOOL – While I can usually count on President Biden to take my monthly fool honors with one of his actions, Whoopi Goldberg, moderator for ABC’s The View, gets my dubious recognition for February Fool’s Day.

During a discussion about a novel that depicts the horrors of the Holocaust, Goldberg commented, “Well this is white people doing it to white people, so y’all gonna fight amongst yourselves.  If you’re going to do this, then be truthful about it because the Holocaust isn’t about race … it isn’t about race.”

Most Americans understand that the Holocaust was about the Nazi’s systematic annihilation of the Jewish people, who they deemed to be an inferior race.

From My Stack of Stuff

It’s that time again when I needed to go to my stack of stuff for topics that didn’t fit my single-issue commentary format, but still worthy of noting here.

Trump Still a Force to be Reckoned With

Three major pieces within five days, including an opinion column, in the leftist Washington Post tells you they’re concerned about the role Donald Trump will play in the midterms and in 2024.

“No one should underestimate former President Donald Trump’s standing within the Republican Party, especially the passionate allegiance of a substantial part of the GOP base,” wrote Dan Balz.  “He still has high favorable ratings among Republicans”

Balz referred to a number of polls, including one by the left-leaning Economist and YouGov, which found that 82 percent of Republicans have a favorable impression of Trump, including 59 percent who view him very favorably, down slightly from 2020.

In a new Marquette University Law School survey that found that 73 percent of Republicans nationally view Trump favorably, 63 percent of Republican respondents and 51 percent of Republican-leaning Independents say they would like to see Trump run again.

Reporting on Trump’s Saturday night rally in Conroe, Texas, Post reporter Tyler Pager noted that “Trump may be out of office, and not yet an official candidate for president in 2024, he still represents a conundrum for his party.  The former president retains an unchallenged grip over the base of the party.”

A crowd described as in the tens of thousands, began lining up at the fairgrounds in Conroe at 2 p.m. for the 7 p.m. rally just north of Houston.  There was a two-hour backup of cars and trucks waiting to enter.  Two fund-raisers were held prior to the event.  A $100,000 per couple luncheon, followed by a $5,000 per couple reception at Lake Conroe. It was Trump’s second rally of the new year, having had one earlier in Florence, Arizona.

In a letter to the editor of the Wall Street Journal, Kurt Erickson of Chicago wrote, “While we prefer dignity in the White House, it is more important to have secure borders, a non-nuclear Iran, a docile Russia, low inflation and energy independence – all destroyed in a year by negating Trump policy, and still without dignity in the White House.

Biden’s Inept White House

You would have thought that President Biden would have learned something when he promised to nominate a black woman to be his vice president.  Now, his decision to nominate black woman to the Supreme Court has backfired.  An ABC News/Ipsos poll reveals that more than three quarters of the respondents, including 54 percent of Democrats, believed Biden should consider all possible candidates.

Perhaps they are familiar with the poor law school academic records and bar exam passage results of blacks compared to whites.  Just two percent of the nation’s lawyers are black females.

There’s more.  Justice Breyer was miffed that his retirement was leaked, a violation of protocol.  He informed Biden of his plan to retire at the end of the current Court term.  We learn now that Biden told his chief of staff Ron Klain to confidentially notify Sen. Dick Durbin, who heads the Senate Judiciary Committee.

There’s still more.  Heather Mac Donald of the Manhattan Institute reminds in her City Journal column of a little-noticed announcement Biden made in his second month in office.  In February, he signaled his intentions to lower the standards for federal judicial appointments.  The White House Counsel’s Office later disclosed that it would not involve the American Bar Association in the vetting process.

Half of Biden’s picks for influential federal appeals courts – eight out 16 appellate judges – have been black females.

On Being White, and Privileged

In a letter to the editor of the left-leaning Arizona Republic, Roy Miller of Phoenix wrote, “I was born white, and I am sorry.  My birth certificate even has blocks labeled “color” for my parents, and the block lists “W” for them both.

“I cannot claim to be partly black or brown.  I am sorry for that because, for that reason, I cannot claim to be free of racism.  If I do, I will be cancelled and criticized.  I am doomed to be categorized as “privileged.”  After all, if a white person claims he is not racist today, that is supposedly evidence of his racism.

“I was privileged to be born an American and not born in some Third World country.  I was born with so many privileges that I guess I must spend my life apologizing.  Of all these “privileges” why is it only skin color that we whites must atone for?”

Mr. Miller continued with a plea to stop practicing identity politics, to be kind to each other, live and let live.

Democrats won’t have it.  President Biden has failed to unify the country and continues to speak of systemic racism and voter suppression.  The left believes this tactic helps their party at the ballot box.  Why do you suppose Biden has said he would nominate a black woman to the Supreme Court?  Votes.

Now, more than ever … may God continue to bless the United States of America.
