Trump Wins CPAC Straw Poll with DeSantis Second, but DeSantis Wins Handily with Trump Not on the Ballot

Commentary

On Sunday, the final day of CPAC, attendees participating in the annual straw poll, voted 59 percent for former President Trump to 28 percent for Ron DeSantis when both were on the ballot.  With Trump not on the ballot, DeSantis took 61 percent of the vote as two thirds of Trump supporters swung over to the Florida governor.

About 2,500 attendees from across the country participated in the straw poll, a credible number when you consider that most opinion polls are conducted among 1,000 individuals.

I wonder … Did you take the time to watch former President Trump’s speech on C-Span or streaming on Fox Nation Saturday?  We need to get serious about the political future of our country.

Trump may or may not be our candidate in 2024, but he will be a strong voice leading up to the Republican effort to return sanity to America in the 2022 midterms.

KARI LAKE, REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR GOVERNOR IN ARIZONA (Screen grab)_

Some candidates for the House, Senate and governorships will choose to campaign with Trump’s support, like Kari Lake, running for governor in Arizona. Others, like Gov. Glenn Youngkin in Virginia, will decide to run a nuance campaign, supporting Trump policies without mentioning his name or seeking his support.

Any candidate who refuses to understand the strong base of Republicans Trump continues to hold, and fails to recall what the former president accomplished, all while being the target of the deep state, will not win.

IT’S HARD TO BE FAIR AND BALANCED when you simply cannot take the opposition seriously.

In my last post I published Nancy Pelosi‘s remark that it was “really important for the people to understand the brilliance with which President Biden is conducting this (Ukraine).”

Then there’s this from Joe Lockhart, President Clinton’s former mouthpiece @joelockhart: “What ever happens in Ukraine we shouldn’t underestimate the fact the United States has retaken the adult chair in the world.  Biden has restored American leadership so damaged by Trump.  The world needs us and we have a president who can and does lead.”  LOL

NANCY PELOSI

But Pelosi wasn’t finished.  We have since leaned that she equates the Russian invasion of Ukraine to the GOP assaults on our democracy, saying Republicans are trying to “go back to the days of enslavement and to the days of Jim Crow” with their opposition to the Democrat legislation to federalize national elections.

What about the Prez?

In a wide-ranging interview with progressive radio host Brian Tyler Cohen, President Biden said, I hope my legacy is that I was able to restore some decency and honor to the office; I was able to bring the middle class back to a place where they had real opportunity, given a chance to succeed; and I was able to reconstruct our alliances, which had been frayed so badly, internationally, and that I was able to bring people together.”

The reporting on that interview by Caroline Vakil in The Hill didn’t include whether he said that without the use of a teleprompter.

PRESIDENT BIDEN

Considering all he hopes will be part of his legacy, he better get busy, because none of this has been accomplished in the first 13 months.  He admitted, “I think we’re making slow progress.”  How about no progress.

MEANWHILE, a Washington Post/ABC News poll found that just 33 percent of Americans approve of his handling of the Russia-Ukraine situation, and nearly half of Americans polled – 48 percent – said that they believed America’s leadership in the world had gotten weaker under Biden.

What was that Lockhart said about restoring American leadership?

Now, more than ever … may God continue to bless the United States of America.
