Biden, a President in Denial, ‘Not Progressive Enough’

Commentary

“Of course, the president’s confident that his son didn’t break the law,” the president’s Chief of Staff Ron Klain told George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s This Week.

“George, the president is confident that his family did the right thing.  But, again, I want to just be really clear, these are actions by Hunter and his brother.  They’re private matters,” Klain said in response to a question about the president crossing ethical lines.  “They don’t involve the president.  And they certainly are something that no one in the White House is involved in.”

Yet, an email in Hunter Biden’s laptop clearly refers to an equity distribution that included “10 (percent) held by “H” for the Big Guy.”

Praise and Criticism from the Left

“Is Joe Biden perfect?  Of course not.  Is Biden the progressive leader that so many members of the Democrat Party’s base and others wanted? No, and he never will be.  As a person gets older, they become more their true authentic self.  Biden is a man of ‘the system.’ He will not abandon it,” wrote Chauncey DeVega, a senior politics writer with Salon, a far-left website based in San Francisco.

“My hope is,” DeVega adds, “that Biden can find moments when he surprises himself, and the American people, by being more progressive, more of a change-maker, than he thought he could be.  He will have to be pushed to become such a leader.  It is not a natural role for him.”

There’s more.  “My admiration for Biden is colored with mixed emotions, including great sadness.  He presents so many frustrating moments when he comes close to being the leader that American democracy needs in this moment of multiple crises,” he continues. “But he cannot or does not take the next step. Some of this is outside his control, such as Republican opposition, evidently intent on destroying democracy and obstructing his agenda.

“I sometimes still see a president who could be a great champion.”

In his dreams.

Biden may not be as progressive as his supporters want him to be, but he certainly seems to be honoring their every wish.  We’ll have to wait and see if he uses executive orders, as the squad has suggested, to get around legislation that won’t pass muster.

“President Biden committed his administration to returning to those progressive era policies that pick winners and losers, substitute government edicts for market forces, and bestow on unelected bureaucrats expansive power to engage in industrial policy,” wrote Phil Gramm and Christine Wilson in a Wall Street Journal op-ed.

While we normally think of Representatives Alexandra Casio-Cortez and Ilan Omar when we think about the progressive movement, Sen. Elizabeth Warren has her own view that labels big business evil, but big government is okay as she supports the regulatory role of bureaucrats

Progressivism must be stopped.

Now, more than ever … may God continue to bless the United States of America.
