With Inflation, Democrats Struggling to Get Traction on Their Issues

Commentary

In recent posts, I have addressed the left’s false accusations that the Republican Party is dismantling democracy, properly attributing their remarks and refuting their charges.

I once believed that the issue of democracy was going to be the Democrat Party’s mantra going into the midterms, as every spokesperson on the left appeared to have his or her talking points.

Now it appears that the threat of our democracy isn’t a winning theme. When the leak from the Supreme Court’s consideration of abortion rights surfaced, that was the sure issue to use against Republican candidates.

During an appearance at an Emily’s List conference, Vice President Harris loudly exclaimed, “How dare they!,” directed at the justices, repeating it three times.

“This is a dangerous court to families, to freedom in our country,” Nancy Pelosi said during an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union program.

But then President Biden jumped at the use of Ultra MAGA, a theme said to be the product of hired consultants, and he began his “deplorables” assault on “extremist” Trump supporters.

Picking up on that theme, Pelosi spoke of today’s Republican Party as a “cult,” when she is the grand mistress of the Squad.

JUSTICE BROWN JACKSON (Wisconsin Examiner)

On Monday, it was back to abortions.  We learned that Biden’s nomination of the first black woman to the Court, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, who, during nomination hearings, could not, or would not, define “woman,” refused to say that leaking court documents was a good thing or a bad thing, even though she was “shocked” to hear about it.

“I can’t answer that,” she said in an interview with the Washington Post.  And when asked what she thought about peaceful protests outside of the homes of the Supreme Court Justices, her response was, “I don’t have a comment.”

“This ranges from somewhere between cowardly and sinister,” commented Andrew C. McCarthy in National Review, with a reminder that such protests violate federal law.

McCarthy noted that all of the justices, “the progressive justices in particular,” should have issued a joint condemnation, echoing Chief Justice John Roberts’ condemnation of the leak and the protests.

Justice Clarence Thomas has since stated, “the leak has changed the Court ‘fundamentally’ and irretrievably betrays trust.”

One thing is sure.  Justice Brown Jackson’s confirmation serves to remind us of former President Trump’s accomplishment of naming three conservative judges to the Court.

The midterm elections are still about 175 days off, so the threat on our democracy, the extreme radical ideas of Ultra MAGA cult members, or the overturning of Roe v. Wade, are all likely to be used against conservative candidates.

Dana Milbank at the leftist Washington Post, as usual, carrying the water for Democrats, writes, “I hope voters punish Republicans in November for their assault on Americans’ freedom,” touting a poll showing abortion as a top concern of 25 percent of voters, virtually tied with the economy.  Yeah, right.

However, with inflation – food and gasoline costs hitting record levels, and supply chain issues (baby formula) growing – Democrats will have a difficult time getting traction on whatever issue they choose.

Now, more than ever … may God continue to bless the United States of America
