Biden Reveals Failure of Border Policy; Authorizes Closing Wall Gaps

Commentary

“There will not be another foot of wall constructed by my administration.  I’m going to make sure that we have border protection ….” Presidential Candidate Biden, August 2020.

“I have determined that the declaration of a national emergency at our southern border was unwarranted.  It shall be the policy of my administration that no more taxpayer dollars be diverted to construct a border wall.” President Biden, January 20, 2021

“… a well-built wall should still be a central part of an overall immigration fix.  It’s an imperfect but functional deterrent against the most reckless forms of border crossings. It’s a barrier against sudden future surges of mass migration.” Bret Stephens, New York Times, April 5, 2021

Today, with illegals flowing across our border in record numbers; some two million of whom have been sent to communities across the nation, and another 500,000 “gotaways” who will also seek refuge here too, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas appears to be in denial.

“Look, the border is secure.  We are working to make the border even more secure,” he told attendees of the Aspen Security Forum just last week.

But magically, just days later, the White House quietly announced that gaps in the wall near Yuma, Arizona would be closed, and Arizona’s MIA Democrat Sen. Mark Kelly, who faces a contentious reelection, wasted no time taking credit for pressuring the White House.  There are three Republicans chomping on the bit to unseat him.

ILLEGALS CROSSING THE RIO GRANDE

Over the past 10 months, there have been more than 20,000 apprehensions every month with some months topping 30,000, from Columbia, Nicaragua, Cuba, India, Russia, Ukraine, Ethiopia and nearly 100 other countries.

However, Biden’s pause on construction of the wall along an 86-mile stretch along the Rio Grande for environmental review has resulted in massive migrant crossings with a number of drownings recorded.

As a candidate, the ill-informed Biden wrote an op-ed for the Miami Herald, in which he stated that “illegal narcotics and human trafficking come primarily through legal port of entry.”

Can it be that President Biden is so out-of-touch that he is unaware of what’s happening away from the ports of entry?  Is Mayorkas a man with no conscience? Certainly, he lacks the integrity required of a cabinet member entrusted with accurately briefing the president.

MEANWHILE, Among the Weak-kneed

Earlier this month, it was a traumatized First Lady Jill Biden who told a group how her husband “had so many hopes and plans for things he wanted do, but he had to address the problems of the moment.”

Now, appearing on a radio interview, West Virginia’s Democrat Joe Manchin is crying that he was “ostracized” and “victimized” by his party for killing Biden’s Build Back Better plan.  You may recall that Rep. Ilan Omar was highly critical of Manchin, saying he couldn’t be trusted.  The ink isn’t dry yet, but it appears Manchin couldn’t take the heat and caved to a big spending deal.

Remember, former President Trump took four plus years of attacks and was able to accomplish more than the previous office holder.  What if he had been weak-kneed?

I have to hand it to Arizona Democrat Sen. Krysten Sinema for standing strong against party pressure, including an assault in a restroom on the campus of Arizona State University by an activist unhappy with her stand on the filibuster. I hope she will tell Majority Leader Chuck Schumer where can stick the so-called “Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.”

May God continue to bless the United States of America.
