Commentary
During the 2020 presidential campaign, then candidate Joe Biden told voters that the choice between him and Donald Trump was between the lawful and the lawless. He called for voters to “support the rule of law, our Constitution.”
Six months into his presidency, Biden openly flouted the Constitution with a knowingly invalid extension of the eviction moratorium, written to keep border crossers out of the U.S. to protect the American public during the pandemic.
It wasn’t kept secret. Here are some of the headlines published at the time:
“Biden’s Unprecedented Attack on the Constitution,” – RealClear Politics
“Joe Biden’s Rule of Law Problem,” The Wall Street Journal
“Biden admits he is proudly and deliberately breaking the law,” Washington Examiner
“Biden’s eviction moratorium is unconstitutional and he knows it,” USA Today
Yet, he has the audacity to continue his assault on former President Trump and his supporters, who he claims “do not respect the Constitution, (and) do not believe in the rule of law, (nor) recognize the will of the people.” Here it is from his September 1, 2022 Philadelphia rant.
“I’m an American president – not the president of red America or blue America, but of all America. And I believe it is my duty – my duty to level with you, to tell the truth no matter how difficult, no matter how painful. And here, in my view, is what is true: MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution. They do not believe in the rule of law. They do not recognize the will of the people.” – President Biden, September 1, 2022
All right, let’s examine his view, while we await the decision on his recent challenge of the Constitution by signing an order to forgive student loans, which we all know was done to gain votes for Democrats in the midterms.
In an essay published by the Independence Institute, “Immigration: How Biden Is violating the Constitution,” Rob Natelson refers readers to Article II, Section 3, which states the president’s duty to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed.”
Further, Natelson cites Article IV, Section 4, which guarantees the protection of each state against invasion, referencing the two million migrants permitted to scatter to states beyond Texas, Arizona and California. Biden’s failure to stop the invasion is a violation of the Guarantee Clause
Not an invasion? One dictionary meaning of “invasion” describes it as “a descent upon a country, a usurpation or encroachment,” which certainly describes what’s happening on our southern border.
“If ever there was an administration that does not respect the rule of law, it is this one. There is no more glaring example of lawlessness that in the Biden administration’s gutting of immigration laws and border enforcement.” – Dan Stein, president, The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR)
“Gutting the rule of law is somehow now seen as a sign of leadership action,” wrote Jonathan Turley, a law professor and Democrat, of Biden. “Biden is not a first-time offender. When he was vice president, the Obama administration greenlighted the expenditure of billions for ObamaCare despite lacking congressional approval, clearly an unconstitutional act.”
Beyond the Border and Immigration
This summer, Biden’s attorney general has refused to enforce federal law (18 U.S. Code 1507) against protestors demonstrating in front of homes of Supreme Court justices.
I don’t think I need to remind you how the Biden administration selectively accuses those who he believes are violating the rule of law, while conveniently ignoring his own administration’s actions.
Will of the People
Then there’s the issue of recognizing the will of the people.
Biden likes to cite the refusal of Trump supporters to accept the result of the 2020 election, saying they do not recognize the will of the people.
Of course, he will never acknowledge that Trump supporters have good reason not to recognize that result. Had the FBI not kept the news of Hunter Biden’s laptop, his shady dealings using the Biden name, and the Biden family corruption, out of the social media and mainstream media leading up to the election, the results might have been different.
Biden’s view of the will of the people is quite different when it comes to issues currently on their minds. He refuses to accept that 80 percent of Americans support voter ID, yet he continues to attack Republicans for oppressing the vote.
Surely, he knows that 65 percent of likely voters believe we are on the wrong track with Biden’s policies, and just 29 percent side with him.
Looking to the midterms, and the will of the people, 60 percent of Americans see the election as a referendum on Biden’s agenda.
Despite Biden’s disgraceful, angry attack on Republicans, 71 percent of likely voters believe there will be a noticeable change in the lives of most Americans if Republicans win control of Congress. Another example of the will of the people.
Finally … still thinking of the will of the people … I wonder if Biden has been told that the latest Rasmussen Report revealed that 52 percent of likely voters support his impeachment.
By now, I think you understand why Biden has decided to take his unprecedented attack on opposition voters. What has he got to lose. He’s already lost them with his miserable record on the economy, immigration, and his botched withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Just 59 days to the midterms. Don’t even think about not voting.
May God continue to bless the United States of America.
