Kramer looks back … the Origins of the Protests … Protest comparisons to Jan. 6 … Vietnam … media humor … and Biden’s bidin’ His Time

Commentary

Watching the coverage of the protests on some of our leading colleges and universities, it’s quite obvious that the news media has again been caught with its intellectual pants down.

We’ve seen it in their coverage of the economy, the environment, and a number of other topics of which they have no depth or any curiosity.  Now we are seeing that they haven’t been paying attention to what’s been happening in education.

I’ve written about it here and have decided to quote from my October 30, 2019 post:

“As a political wonk, I have long observed and opined on the political influence of the teacher’s unions and college and university professors on our young people.

“Most of you know how liberal professors dominate our institutions of higher learning, but are you aware of what’s going on it our high schools, and, yes,  even our elementary schools?”

I referenced a piece from The Federalist, “How America’s Children Became Progressive Political Activists,” in which the authors noted that K-12 and college teachers are overwhelmingly leftist and wrote of trends showing America’s kids becoming farther left.

I also quoted from the 2009 farewell address made by Bob Chanin, retiring as general counsel of the National Education Association (NEA), and it needs repeating.  Posing the question as to why the NEA has been such an effective organization, he said:

“It is not because of creative ideas.  It is not because of the merit of our position, it is not because we care about children.  It is not because we have a vision of a great public school for every child.

“NEA and its affiliates are effective advocates because we have power and we have power because there are more than 3.2 million people who are willing to pay us hundreds of millions of dollars in dues each year because they believe we are the union that can effectively represent them.”

Represent “them” not our children.

I referred to the 2019 fall quarterly of the American Federation of Teachers with its theme: “A Defining Moment for Democracy,” in which its president, Randi Weingarten cites President Trump’s “bigotry” and “cruelty.”

Despite the lack of interest exhibited by the media, much has been written about the leftist advocacy of our educators, but many of you continue to send contributions to your alma maters.

Billionaire Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots, has decided to pull his funding from his alma mater, Columbia University, site of uncontrolled protest.

Two years ago, after denouncing his graduation from Harvard, Fox News Channel host Pete Hegseth published a book that became a New York Times best seller, “Battle for the American Mind: Uprooting a Century of Miseducation,” that does a nice job of outlining a road map to save of our children from leftist indoctrination.

They Hate America

What you are witnessing is not simply active antisemitism. There should be no doubt, the protestors on college campuses are well-organized, many believe by socialist professors – Bill Ayers types – who brainwash students, with “heads full of mush” as Rush Limbaugh used to say, and basically turning them into pizza.

They hate America and what it stands for and it has gone beyond freedom of speech and peaceful protest.  Windows broken, buildings taken over, defacing campuses, and ridiculous demands.

Asked what they are protesting, they’re speechless, and some 60 percent of them are reportedly outside activists.

Sharpton Has a Point

MIKA BRZEZINKSKI

I found it humorous that the left-leaning Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, had to caution Al Sharpton, who said, “How do Democrats, how do all of us on that side, say January 6, was wrong if you can have the same pictures going on, on college campuses?

“Good Lord! Mika exclaimed, “Don’t make a parallel to January 6.”

Speaking of January 6

Leave it to the former Illinois Rep. Adam Kinsinger, who you will recall left Congress in disgrace to join Liz Cheney in their failed attempt to pin former President Trump as an insurrectionist on the partisan Jan. 6 committee. Kinsinger labels far right groups as the biggest threats to America.

Now with CNN, bashing the right, especially Trump, he has proven himself to be a far-left apologist.  While referring to the “fascist right” as the “biggest threat,” on the social media “X,” he referred to the leftist college protestors as “mostly just annoying spoiled children.”

BERNIE AND JOE

Then There’s Bernie Sanders

… who fears that the protests on college campuses over Israel’s war against Hamas could be Biden’s Vietnam War, reminding us of former President Lyndon Johnson’s choice not to run in 1968.  Wow!

Meanwhile … Biden’s Just Bidin’ His Time

Each day that passes, President Biden seems less engaged, a spinner of tall tales, not seriously campaigning.  A week went by before he decided to address the radical riots on a number of college campuses, and even then, he had to read his statement that lacked concern, no condemnation, and no message of consequences.

Biden again reminds me of the song, “Bidin’ My Time,” George and Ira Gershwin’s hit from the 1928 Broadway musical, Girl Crazy.

For those of you not familiar with the song, think about Ole Joe while reading Ira’s lyrics:

“I’m bidin’ my time, cause that’s the kinda guy I’m,

While other folks grow dizzy, I keep busy, bidin’ my time.

Next year, next year, somethin’s bound to happen, bound to happen

This year, this year, I’ll just keep on nappin’

And bidin’ my time, ‘cause that’s the kinda guy I’m, not regrettin’, when I’m settin’, bidin’ my time.

May God continue to bless the United States of America.
