Commentary
After a breakfast earlier this week, a friend commented on the sheer volume of political news of late, knowing of course that as a political commentator I am in the thick of it.
We didn’t know of President Biden’s decision to drop out of the race at the time. On Wednesday evening, in an Oval Office address, he told us “the defense of democracy (was) at stake,” conceding he could no longer manage that burden.
While I expected that he would read from a teleprompter, I expected more of his folksy tales. Instead, his address sounded more like the state of the union address as he sat there with an obvious spray-on tan.
Because he “promised to always level with you, to tell you the truth,” but chose not to be truthful with the reason he was dropping out of the race, I have taken the liberty of adding the light italics at the end of his quote:
“Nowhere else on Earth could a kid with a stutter from modest beginnings in Scranton, Pennsylvania and in Claymont, Delaware, one day sit behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office as the president of the United States, but here I am” telling you the truth. I quit, not because I wanted to, but because the Democrat machine forced me to.”
I couldn’t help but wonder what was going through the minds of Jill, Hunter, and Ashley as they sat in the Oval Office out of view. The words “power” and “access” crossed my mind.
“They put self-preservation over principle,” wrote journalist Bari Weiss. “Proximity to power, privilege, prestige. That’s the currency. And people fiercely protect their access.”
Most of the post address comments are related to Biden’s failure to truthfully state that he had no choice but to abandon the race because he was told he simply couldn’t win.
Of course, the leftist media thought his speech was a historic best. It was even described as Churchillian and Reaganesque. Oh my.
Now Let’s Step Back
I am still jubilant (a word I rarely use) over the manner in which the tables were turned on the Biden-Harris scheme to keep former President Trump off the campaign trail and in court rooms fending off indictments.
While the lawfare scheme began to fade, Biden was surprised when Trump agreed to an early debate on his terms. With Biden’s disastrous performance, his age and mental acuity became an issue even with the leftist media, and soon it had all the makings of an exposed cover-up.
We saw former President Obama helping Joe off the stage at the big Goerge Clooney Hollywood fundraiser, followed soon thereafter by Clooney’s decision to abandon Joe.
As talk of replacing Joe on the ticket picked up, Joe insisted he wasn’t throwing in the towel. He repeatedly said he wasn’t going anywhere. As fellow blogger Ben Domenech put it, “It appeared the president, his inner circle and family had dug in, insisting against all effort to dislodge him, and that the president intended to continue to run and win in November.”
However, Trump’s powerful visual defiance after the failed attempt on his life, followed by the highly successful RNC unifying convention, the handwriting was on the White House wall; Joe had to go.
While Biden-Harris had been on their high horse exhorting democracy and rule of law, we are now witnessing the left’s version as Vice President Harris is anointed to take Biden’s place on the top of the ticket.
There are no smoke-filled rooms anymore. Joe had no choice but to cave, but he will still be president until January 20, 2025, barring the worsening in his ability to handle the responsibilities of the job.
As I think back, it didn’t have to end this way. The media. Harris and Jill Biden knew long ago that he was no longer up to the job. But they went on television to tell Americans all was well. They were all complicit in a cover-up.
Perhaps Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, was the leading Biden sycophant. She wrote, “I’m really sad. Joe Biden is a patriot. I love him, I love his family and I love what he has done for the country.”
There was more, but after that last line, nothing else matters. Our country is in decline because of Biden policies, Mika.
That love will be short-lived as she, and husband Joe Scarborough, will now be expected to flip the switch for the candidacy of Kamala Harris. While Fox, Newsmax, conservative podcast hosts and bloggers use the plethora of cringe-worthy news clips to show her for what she is – incompetence personified.
While her early campaign appearances this week seem to have energized Democrats; especially those who sought someone other than Joe on the ballot, talk of the undemocratic ousting of Biden is left unsaid by the media. Harris’ handlers are faced with the impossible task of transforming her into a winnable candidate.
Her record, or lack of one, is already coming to light for those who have only seen her as laughing girl, who gives those nonsensical ramblings about her love of yellow school buses, Venn diagrams, and coconut trees.
The next 101 days are going to be fun.
May God continue to bless the United States of America.
