Commentary
In journalism, -30- , signifies the end of an article submitted for editing and eventual typesetting. I understand the code dates to the time when news stories were filed by telegraph.
After writing political opinion pieces for daily and weekly papers for 14 years following my retirement from corporate communications in 2000, I started writing this blog.
As the 2024 presidential election campaigns drew to a close earlier this week, I became extremely disappointed with low information voters who were supporting Vice President Harris but couldn’t articulate what she had done to prepare her for the highest office. I recently wrote about that concern.
I made the decision that it would be -30- for this blog if Kamala Harris won the presidency.
Assuming most of my readers are conservatives, I write about issues on the left and right important to them. However, as the heading at the top of my blog states – “keeping progressives honest” – I like to think my objective views might be persuasive.
So Kramerontheright lives, not only because of former President Trump’s resounding victory, but because Vice President Harris showed her true character by refusing to concede.
Admittedly, not apologetically, I was pleased to hear those low information voters boo when Cedric Richmond, who she sent out to tell her “victory party” crowd at the all-black Howard University to “go home, you won’t hear from her tonight.” It reminded me of 2016, when Hillary Clinton sent John Podesta out to do the same at the Javits Center in New York. So much for unifying the country.
I believe Harris actually thought she was going to win with lines like “we’re not going back,” and “we’re turning the page.”
With his win, Trump not only won the required electoral votes, but beat her with the popular vote. Trump, who was unfairly accused of campaigning for himself, told his party crowd, “We (not I) made history for a reason tonight. This will be remembered as the day the American people regained control of the country.”
On Wednesday afternoon, about 12 hours after Trump was declared the winner, Harris returned to Howard University to give her concession speech, arriving nearly a half hour late. The speech, with frequent use of the word “fight,” sounded more like a campaign pitch.
After thanking everyone who worked to get her elected she revealed that she spoke with President Elect Trump, offering him help with the transition, while seemingly making a special point of engaging in a peaceful transfer of power.
Media Reaction
I must admit, too, I enjoyed the response of Harris’s loss on the faces and in the excuses for her loss voiced by the ladies of The View and Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, the misinformation duo on Morning Joe. What is the future of political coverage from CNN and MSNBC?
In its lead paragraph, The Washington Post, thought it was newsworthy to say he was returning to the White House after a criminal conviction and two impeachments. Yes, but in the lead?
Negative reporting on the former president, now the president elect, is a journalistic disgrace.
Not giving up
Continuing her hate campaign against Trump, and the threat he is to our democracy, Liz Cheney said “Citizens across this country, our courts, members of the press and those serving in our federal, state and local governments must now be the guardrails of democracy.”
Then there’s this …
In a divisive post-election press conference, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James vowed to “fight back again,” against the president elect, presuming he would be readying for a political and legal war with New York.
Have they forgotten …
While speaking of his admiration for New York, his hometown, during his campaigns there, Trump vowed to work with the governor and the mayor to “make New York City great again” if elected.
Hard to imagine
I cannot imagine Hochul or James agreeing with the recommendation voiced by former Trump AG Bill Barr, who suggested that the “weak” cases currently held on Trump now be dismissed, recognizing that the American people have rendered their verdict on him with his election.
They may not have a choice. As I was preparing to publish this, I understand that the DOJ may be in the process of dismissing the cases against Trump.
Barr who once said Trump “shouldn’t be near the Oval Office,” but later said, “Between Biden and Trump, I will vote for Trump,” adding “I think the real threat to democracy is the progressive movement and the Biden administration.”
Thankfully, we the people have spoken mightily. Thank you.
May God continue to bless us as we enter the Golden Age of America.
