Commentary
Last week, when the media was all agog, writing about a feud – an “ugly public feud” noted one paper – between President Trump and Elon Musk, I was making notes as I contemplated that story among others for my next edition.
A week later, while reading those notes, one word – nonsense – and the initials – BS – stood out. I just didn’t believe the relationship between the pair had gone south. Musk went too far with his criticism of Trump, but the president, wisely, was pretty silent about the relationship as the media pressed him for comment.
Now the word we are seeing in print is “regret.” What Musk has stated in his social media posts, in which he lambasted the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” and claimed there was a connection between Trump and pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
While Musk was referring to the Bill as a “massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill” and a “disgusting abomination,” a headline appearing in the Wall Street Journal – “Musk Is a Genius, but He Isn’t a Political One” – says it all.
Commenting on the alleged relationship between Epstein and Trump, David Schoen, Epstein’s defense lawyer, said, “I can authoritively, unequivocally, and definitively that he had no information to hurt President Trump. I specifically asked him.
I see no value in commenting further on Musk’s remarks or the views of those on the left regarding future collaboration between the two.
While Trump took Musk’s call on Monday night, during which Musk expressed his regret about previous comments, it remains to be seen how the president will handle the attempted rapprochement and whether the pair’s relationship can be restored.
Democrats Always Wrong
I had to laugh when I saw the latest Trump cap that declared, “Trump Was Right About Everything!” It brought to mind how wrong the Democrats have been, and they don’t seem to get it. During the election they cautioned about the risk to democracy a vote for Trump would mean, while democracy was far from their thinking when they made Harris their candidate.
Just as we have seen past Republican’s become heroes in the minds of Democrats, like President Reagan and Sen. John McCain, within hours of Musk’s break with Trump, he became Mr. Wonderful to some on the left.
Their opposition to anything Trump has proven them wrong. Trump lives in their heads.
Their latest mistake came with their standoffs with ICE at detention facilities.
A federal grand jury indicted New Jersey Democrat Rep. LaMonica McIver on charges of assaulting a federal law enforcement officer during a protest at and immigration and customs enforcement detention center last month. She could face a maximum of 17 years in prison. McIver and her cohorts could have sought permission to view the facility, but poorly chose to push and shove their way in
The Wall Street Journal headline, “The LA Riots Hand Republicans a Political Edge,” and the Washington Examiner headline, “LA anti-ICE riots are latest instance of Democrats ‘on the wrong side,’“are two other examples of their choosing the wrong side.
LA Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Newsom’s stand for their sanctuary city and state is wrong. Specifically, Newsom is wrong about Trump calling in the National Guard. A governor’s approval is not required for the president to act against violence.
Despite the violence in LA viewed by anyone watching the news with protestors throwing bricks, chunks of concrete and Molotov cocktails at the cops, cars were torched and stores looted, California’s Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters went to the microphones to say there was “no violence,” noting that she was there.
On Thursday, while Homeland Security Department Secretary Kristi Noem was in Los Angeles conducting a press conference, California Democrat Sen. Alex Padilla wrongly and rudely shouted and disrupted the conference. He had to be forcibly removed from the room.
Padilla’s identity was unknown, and Noem was being protected. He later claimed that he wanted to ask a question, however, chose not to wait for the Q&A. Noem later met with him for a brief period.
That didn’t stop Sen. Chuck Schumer, who’s always wrong, incorrectly commenting on the “brutal” manner in which Senator Padilla was treated. While claiming Padilla was there to “ask questions,” he chose to be an antagonist, like Rep. McIver in New Jersey.
Being wrong doesn’t seem to bother Democrats. While they’re still trying to figure out how they lost the election to Donald Trump, they’re rudderless.
In a Rasmussen survey, 55 percent of registered voters believed it would be better for the country if Democrats in Congress tried to work with Trump … fat chance – 35 percent thought it better if they totally oppose Trump on every issue.
May God continue to bless the United States of America.
