I am so tired of hearing President Biden say, “that’s who we are,” when he assumes we all agree with his position on an issue.
In his prepared remarks following his meeting with Russian President Putin, he noted that “human rights are always going to be on the table … that’s why we will continue to raise issues of fundamental human rights, because that’s what we are … that’s who we are.”
I understand the interest of the president and state department pressing Putin to release Americans imprisoned in Russia as political prisoners. Their parents and other loved ones have appealed to them to seek their release.
However, I found it amusing how Putin cleverly turned the tables on Biden, suggesting that when it comes to human rights, he should look in the mirror, referring to 400 political rivals still in jail for the breaching of the nation’s Capitol, with bail refused. A clear example of violating their human rights.
While Putin’s implication that the U. S. government had ordered the assassination of activist Ashli Babbitt, who was shot and killed by a Capitol Policeman in the Capitol on January 6, 2021, is ludicrous, it surfaces as another human rights issue Biden is ignoring. Is that who we are?
Why was it necessary for Babbitt’s family to file a lawsuit to seek the records of the officer who shot their daughter. No charges were filed against the officer as the investigation revealed no evidence to establish that at the time the officer fired the single shot at Babbitt, the officer did not reasonably believe that it was necessary to do so in self-defense or in defense of the members of Congress and others evacuating the House chamber. The video shows three armed police officers directly behind Babbitt when she was shot.
I have viewed the video of this shooting several times; a clear case of an officer indiscriminately using deadly force. I wonder, what if Babbitt was black?
In addition, the Biden Justice Department is withholding the release of some 14,000 hours of Capitol surveillance footage, insisting they contain “highly sensitive” government material. It is believed that the footage offers evidence that the Capitol police demonstrated a congeniality with some of the protesters.
I have seen cell phone coverage showing the police standing by as protestors walked down the halls of the building.
Clearly, the Biden administration wants to keep the memories of events around January 6, 2021 in the minds of Americans, as they plan to use it in upcoming elections to damn Republicans as right-wing extremists.
AND FINALLY, speaking of “that’s who we are” … President Biden has refused to permit South Dakota’s plan to celebrate the Fourth of July with fireworks at Mount Rushmore, despite the fact that Gov. Kristi Noem has complied with all of the required permit paperwork.
Is it because South Dakota’s two Republican Senators Thune and Rounds opposed the confirmation of Debra Anne Haaland as Secretary of the Interior, the first Native American to become a cabinet member?
Is it because of the mounting national political popularity of Governor Noem?
Or is it payback for inviting President Trump to hold the Fourth of July celebration at Mount Rushmore in 2020?
Picking any one or all of the above would be what you might expect from the Biden administration because “that’s who they are.”
