By now you have more than likely heard about the latest EV fire, the Ford F-150 Lightning battery fire that stalled production for five weeks, but the news of the wind turbine fire in rural western New York received little notice in the media.
Why am I writing about these fires in this piece on news supposedly from the political scene? It’s simple. Electric vehicles and wind power are part of the Biden administration’s fantasy of transitioning our nation from fossil fuels to electric energy in the name of altering changes in climate,
However, before I tell you about the wind turbine fire, I want to share with you this quote from an article, “The Energy Transition Is a Delusion Indeed,” written by Benjamin Zycher, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.
“The energy transition is a massive shift, wholly artificial and politicized, from conventional energy inexpensive, reliable, and very clean given the proper policy environment toward such unconventional energy technologies as wind and solar.
Zycher notes that fantasists are impervious to reality as they assert that a modern economy can be powered with the energy equivalent of pixie dust, arguing that emerging problems – like the fires – are little more than growing pains, and that all will be well given more time, more subsidies, and more magical thinking.
“Two decades of aspirational policies and trillions of dollars in spending on solar, wind and battery technology have not yielded an energy transition that eliminates hydrocarbons,” wrote Mark P. Mills of the Manhattan Institute. “It is delusional to believe that spending yet more, and more quickly, will do so.”
Yet, the American public, with its ho hum apathetic belief in the old man in the White House, who continues to fantasize on a path to zero emissions that in reality is a path to destroying our economy.
Then there’s Vice President Harris in Miami to announce a $562 million “investment” on 149 projects across the country, aimed at improving resilience to threats such as rising seas and the kind of coast flooding that recently hit Florida’s southeast area as a result of climate change. STOP!
And finally, about that wind turbine fire. The wind turbine that erupted in flames, is one of 31 windmills on land leased from owners of private property located in the towns of Greenwood and West Union in Steuben County, New York.
It burned for several hours spewing airborne fiberglass through the air, reportedly affecting croplands and livestock.
NextEra Energy, owner of the wind turbines, issued a statement believing that “this was an isolated incident,” however, there have been similar incidents with wind turbines in the U.K.
Last July, there was a report of a lightning strike on a windmill near Cromwell, Oklahoma, and as a result, we learned that they are particularly prone to lightning strikes. Even when fitted with protection systems, lightning strike damage has not been eliminated.
Interestingly, a German study estimated that 80 percent of insurance claims in the industry were related to lightning strikes.
Wake up, America. You may not be able to stop the outrageous spending in the so-called Inflation Reduction Act covering EV purchase bonuses, charging stations and a host of environmental home improvements, you can simply refuse not to participate.
