The Trump Indictment is Another Distraction, but Oh So Much More

Commentary

As Special Counsel Jack Smith announced an indictment leveling 37 charges against former President Trump, it was clearly another attempt by the Deep State to interfere with Trump’s decision to seek reelection, but there’s oh so much more at stake.

“… many figures in the justice system are happy prosecuting Trump because it makes them feel good.” – Freddy Gray, The Spectator

When queried about the indictment, President Biden smilingly told reporters that he doesn’t speak to Attorney General Garland on such matters.  Does he think we are oblivious to what happens behind closed doors or in private phone calls?

Garland is Biden’s man in the DOJ, and it was Garland, who could have overridden Smith, but approved of Smith’s decision to indict.  We also know that Garland notified Biden of the decision prior to the announcement. Biden could have stopped it.

So, just as the 2020 election was interfered with when the FBI met with Twitter and the other social media, and former intelligence officers signed that letter designed to favor Biden’s election, we are witnessing dirty tricks aimed at Trump in 2024.

Do they fully understand the implications of their unprecedented decision as they again unleash the government on the leading opponent – the former president – in an approaching election year?

It has been said that we now have a presidential election, which is basically in the hands of our judiciary, and a judiciary run by the opposing party.  But is it really?  While Smith insists there will be a speedy trial, the possibility of it taking place prior to the election is not likely, and Trump could win.

“The GOP is tired of losing, and they want to win desperately this cycle, causing some to worry about the electoral risk associated with a man fending off so many legal threats

This mess concocted by the left, however, tends to reinforce Trump as a sympathetic figure. Republicans, even those who are not Trump supporters, view this as harassment furthering their distrust in our judiciary.

Not surprising, our GOP leaders in the Senate – Mitch McConnell and John Thune – have been silent about the indictment.  However, Sen. Josh Hawley did offer, “If the people in power can jail their political opponents at will, we don’t have a republic.”

In the House, Speaker McCarthy, said “It is unconscionable for a president to indict the leading candidate opposing him,“ while Judiciary Chairman Jordan called it a “sad day for America.  God bless President Trump.”

The Trump indictment temporarily took the Biden bribery story off the conservative news for the day, while the House rescinded the contempt of Congress charge against FBI Director Wray after he coincidently caved and released the FBI form that allegedly accuses the president. That story, though missing from leftist media news outlets, is not dead.

We haven’t forgotten either that Special Counsel Robert Hur, who investigated President Biden’s cache of classified documents stored in his unsecured Delaware garage and other locations, will not indict the president.  Double standard?

And how can we ever forget how the former disgraced FBI Director Comey declared that “no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case,” against Hillary Clinton, when he revealed that she and her colleagues “were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information.”

Garland and Smith have succeeded in reminding Americans that all of their talk about rule of law is just that … talk.

Ditto the Democrat mantra on the danger Trump imposes on our democracy.

What Others Are Saying

“Biden has guaranteed Trump success in this campaign for the Republican nomination.” Karen Townsend, Hot Air

“Donald Trump and I have had our ups and downs … but I want the American people to know, to make no mistake, this is the executive branch tonight trying to out their number one opponent for the presidency of the United States in 2024.” – Rep. Nancy Mace, R.SC

“It would be much easier for me to win this election if Trump weren’t in the race, but I stand for principles over politics.  I commit to pardon Trump promptly on January 20, 2024 and to restore the rule of law in our country.” Vivek Ramaswamy, GOP presidential candidate.

Stay tuned.  Remember, people like the “fighter” in Trump

May God continue to bless the United States of America.
