Commentary
I’m 86 years old and embarrassed with our president, and perhaps more so with our first lady.
Regular readers may recall that I have been very critical of First Lady Biden, because she, of all people, knew in her heart that Joe is unfit to run again in 2024.
Earlier this year, I described it as “elder abuse, and a fraud on the American people.” And it continues.
She addressed what the media called a “packed crowd of 250 seniors” at a Phoenix gathering for “Biden Bingo,” trying to ease concerns over the president’s scrutiny over his mental acuity.
“Joe and the other guy are essentially the same age so let’s not be fooled,” she said.
That night, there was a viral moment following Joe’s meeting with Hollywood’s elite when it appeared that former President Obama had to lead him off stage when it appeared that he had frozen in a robotic-like stare.
There was a similar instance during a White House Rose Garden Juneteenth celebration as guests on either side of him, including Vice President Harris and the First Gentlemen, were moving with the music, while he appeared motionless with a frozen smile.
People around the world saw him appear to walk away from fellow G-7 dignitaries gathered in Bari, Italy to watch parachutists. Noticing it, Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni graciously followed after him, taking him by the arm, and returning him to the others.
Earlier this month, leftist media criticized The Wall Street Journal for its reporting in “Behind Closed Doors, Biden Shows Signs of Slipping.” The same crowd that declared Biden’s State of the Union Address was an “out of the park home run.”
Then there’s the refusal by the White House, supported by Attorney General Garland, to release the audiotapes of President Biden’s hours of interview with Special Counsel Hur.
While a written transcript was published and made public, Congress sought the audiotape to determine in their minds the state of the president’s memory and ability to articulate his responses.
Perhaps the president saw how the audiotape of Hunter Biden’s memoir came back to haunt him during the recent trial as the jury got to hear him speak as the prosecutor used it in evidence.
Look at it this Way
Imagine if you will that you’re in the locker room at halftime of the game between Notre Dame and Army in 1928 as Irish coach Knute Rockne was trying to salvage something from his worst season at Notre Dame.
Now imagine the scene in the locker room and in walks Rockne. To inspire the players, he told of the tragic death of the greatest player ever at Notre Dame, George Gipp.
“Well boys … I haven’t a thing to say. Played a great game … all of you. Great game. I guess we just can’t expect to win them all. I’m going to tell you something I’ve kept to myself for years … none of you knew George Gipp. Before your time. But you know what a tradition he is at Notre Dame.
“The last thing he said to me … Rock,” he said … “Sometime when the team is up against it … and the breaks are beating the boys … tell them to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Gipper. I don’t know where I’ll be then, Rock,” he said, “but I’ll know about it – and I’ll be happy.”
There was a hushed silence as Rockne began to leave the room, saying “Alright,” when a player yells out… “Well, what are we waiting for ?” and the players rushed out to the field.
Notre Dame went on to score two touchdowns in the second half before a crowd of 85,000 in Yankee Stadium and won 12-6.
Here’s My Point
Would Notre Dame have been inspired to go out and win that game if they had just read it? The tone of Rockne’s voice changed several times in those moments, from the time he entered the locker room, during this storytelling, and leaving with the single word “Alright.”
Another Example
I would like to hear an audiotape of the September 2016 FBI interview of Hillary Clinton over the use of her private e-mail server. Not only is that unlikely to ever be available, the report of those interviews is highly redacted.
We are simply led to believe her statement that she “received no instructions regarding the preservation or production of records from State.”
Remember how FBI Director James Comey told us “No reasonable prosecutor would bring a case. This investigation was done honestly, competently, and independently”
Back to Biden’s Interview
I purchased a copy and did considerable research within Special Counsel Hur’s 345-page report into Biden’s unauthorized removal, retention and disclosure of classified documents, however, I already knew he was a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”
During testimony, Hur said, “What I wrote is what I believe the evidence shows and what I expect jurors would perceive and believe.” In the report, he said, “it would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him.”
But I want to hear President Biden respond, in his voice, to the four hours of questioning by Hur. I don’t want someone telling me what I have heard and how I would react.
Thinking back on Rockne, how am I supposed to get behind a president who mishandled classified documents, but is unwilling let Americans know what he was thinking, how he explained his actions.
May God continue to bless the United States of America.
