Commentary
Just 12 days ago, writing about former FBI director James Comey and former CIA director John Brennan under investigation for Russiagate, I mentioned that I had written on accountability a dozen times since 2012.
Last Friday DNI Tulsi Gabbard released a passel of documents she said provide evidence of how former President Obama, unhappy with Trump winning the 2016 election, directed a “treasonous conspiracy” to do everything possible to undermine or subvert the will of the American people who elected him.
As I write this, I’m looking at today’s headlines and wondering if I will see Obama and his intelligence officials held accountable:
“Barack Obama Now Squarley in Russiagate Crosshairs”
“Responsible for Coup, Russian Hoax”
.“Gabbard lays out how deep state waged ‘years-long coup’ against Trump”
“Conspiracy 101: What Is a Conspiracy, and Can It Be Proven?”
“Accountability? DNI Gabbard Says Whistleblowers Are Now
‘Coming Out of the Woodwork’ on Russiagate.”
Unfortunately, none of those headlines appeared in mainstream newspapers. Reagan Reese, White House correspondent for the Daily Caller, admonished them for the absence of reporting on the allegations against Obama on the Sunday news shows, noting their continued coverage on the Epstein story.
They chose to ignore the 114-page declassified material asserting “overwhelming evidence” showing Obama and his national security team “manufactured and politicized intelligence, released by DNI Gabbard.
I couldn’t begin to provide you with the volumes of information that have come to light in the past few days, however, for those interested, Gabbard’s declassified document can be found on the Internet.
Regular readers know that after my years of following this story, it’s accountability that I’m looking for. Writing about the elusiveness of accountability, I noted, “never in my wildest dreams did I ever believe Hillary Clinton, Comey, McCabe, Brennan, and the others would go to prison.” I simply want their illicit activities revealed, accountability documented, and that they be forbidden any future government position or an ability to lobby Congress. Those with law degrees should lose their license to practice law.
Why Investigate
“Their egregious abuse of power and blatant rejection of our Constitution threatens the very foundation and integrity of our democratic republic,” said Gabbard. “No matter how powerful, every person involved in this conspiracy must be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, to ensure nothing like this ever happens again.
“The American people’s faith and trust in our democratic republic and therefore the future of our nation depends on it. As such, I am providing all documents to the Department of Justice to deliver the accountability that President Trump, his family, and the American people deserve.”
There’s this …
… from Roger Kimball in The Spectator, who like me, has written numerous columns on Russian collusion. He wrote about having a bone to pick with Tulsi Gabbard. “I had hoped I had finished with the subject forever.”
“Will any of the of the principal actors in the long-running attempted coup against Trump be held to account?” asks Kimball. “Will Hillary Clinton? Will Barack Obama? How about John Brennan and James Comey, Peter Strzok and his erstwhile lover Lisa Page, or James Clapper or Sally Yates or Samantha Power?
“Until Tulsi Gabbard’s revelations, I had resigned myself the prospect that any serious accountability for this concerted effort to overturn the results of a presidential election were nil.”
Thinking Positive
“It’s understandable that, after all this time and all that has transpired over the past decade, those hoping for the truth to come out and justice to be served have grown weary and somewhat jaded,” wrote Susie Moore in RedState, “but based on Gabbard’s comments, it sounds as though there’s cause to hope that there will be accountability after all.”
May God continue to bless the United States of America.
