In the 1960’s, “Danger, Will Robinson” and “Warning, Warning, Does Not Compute” were robot message alerts on the popular Lost in Space television series.
Today, in the real world, CIA Director John O. Brennan’s warnings are being ignored by our faux commander-in-chief, who is unable to identify the terrorist threat we are facing abroad, but more importantly, at home. Compare the statements made following the Orlando murders this week.
“The president does believe it is important that his successor is somebody who recognizes that our country is safer that it was eight years ago, that we enhanced our standing around the world and that we’ve strengthened our alliances … that we have refined and, improved and strengthened our homeland security.” – While House Press Secretary Josh Earnest, June 15, 2016
“ISIL continues to lose ground in Iraq … ISIL has now lost nearly half of the populated territory it once controlled in Iraq … ISIL continues to lose ground in Syria as well … the noose is tightening around ISIL … ISIL is on defense …we’ve cut ISIL’s revenue from oil by millions of dollars per month … ISIL’s cash reserves are down … ISIL’s ranks are shrinking … their morale is sinking.” – President Obama, June 17, 2016, following National Security Council meeting.
“And as I often tell young officers at CIA, I have never seen a time when our country faced such a wide variety of threats to our national security. Run your fingers along almost any portion of the map from the Asia Pacific to North Africa and you will quickly find a flashpoint with global implications. Unfortunately, despite all our progress against ISIL on the battlefield and in the financial realm, our efforts have not reduced the group’s terrorism capability and global reach. The resources needed for terrorism are very modest, and the group would have to suffer even heavier losses of territory, manpower, and money for its terrorist capacity to decline significantly. ISIL, however, is a formidable, resilient, and largely cohesive enemy, and we anticipate that the group will adjust its strategy and tactics in an effort to regain momentum. -CIA Direrctor John. O. Brennan, June 16, 2016, before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
Tony Perkins recently commented that “Brennan is taking significant steps to help alert people who rely on him to provide indications and warnings of impending danger … and does not want to be known as the CIA director who lulled the nation into a false sense of security when he had the chance to speak up.”
I agree, but our faux commander-in-chief chooses to ignore the warnings as he closes the book on his failed presidency.
