Here are my observations and opinions on selected news of the day.
CNN’S BRIAN STELTER and his network colleagues have clearly had a single-minded goal of promoting the illegitimacy of the Trump presidency since he took office. A vicious anti-Trump movement that cannot be denied.
NOW GET THIS – Writing @brianstelter, he says, “Trump’s tweets about the media are downright dehumanizing. He sounds like he’s trying to strip away our legitimacy and indeed our humanity. He is leading a ‘hate movement.'”
MEANWHILE – Rasmussen Reports reveals that 44 percent of likely U.S. voters now think the country is heading in the right direction, up three points from the previous two weeks. It is the highest level of confidence since early March 2017.
HEY DEMOCRATS! Those of you who continue to block the wall along our southern border. Border Patrol agents apprehended a Pakistani national who illegally crossed the border in the Del Rio, Texas sector. Travelling with five individuals from Mexico who were attempting to avoid detection, the Pakistani was not seeking asylum. They crossed the border some 20 miles from a legal port of entry.
NOT THE FIRST TIME – Breitbart reports that three other Pakistani’s were arrested in November 2017, and that five others were arrested along with an Afghan 16 miles inland from Mexico, near Patagonia, Arizona. The Border Patrol is also concerned about large numbers of Bangladeshi nationals being apprehended in the Laredo, Texas sector.
The human smuggling pipeline is real and deserves the attention misdirected to the family separation issue.
YOU’VE HEARD THEM SAY IT – Democrats would have you believe that President Trump’s success in improving the economy began with former President Obama.
Balderdash! The people don’t believe it for a minute. The Tuesday Rasmussen Reports indicates that 50 percent of likely voters believe the improving economy is due more to Trump than Obama.
HOSPITAL PRICES – I understand that the Trump administration is requiring hospitals to post their standard prices online under a rule made last week.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will require hospitals to update their online price list annually starting January 1, 2019, according to The Hill. Currently, CMS requires hospitals to share prices with people who request them.
CONCERNS WITH MENENDEZ – Nick Corasaniti, writing in The New York Times, reported earlier this week that Democrats quickly united behind Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) after his corruption trial, “But six months later, the road has become unexpectedly bumpy.”
“After weathering a criminal indictment and a harsh ethics rebuke from his Senate peers, Mr. Menendez may find himself in a tough enough re-election fight that will force the party to devote money an energy needed in other races critical to the party’s quest to retake Congress,“ says Corasaniti.
“In theory, Mr. Menendez, 64, should win easily,” he writes, noting that registered Democrats outnumber Republicans by nearly 900,000 in a state where President Trump is not popular.
His Republican opponent, Bob Hugin, 64, a wealthy former pharmaceutical executive who has already spent $15 million of his own money is buoyed by Menendez’s close primary win, during which Lisa McCormick, a relative unknown, managed to win nearly 40 percent of the vote.
ILLEGITIMI NON CARBORUNDUM would make a great imprint on a T-shirt. It is a mock Latin aphorism interpreted as “Don’t let the bastards get you down.” Brian Benczhowski would probably be on the of the first to wear one.
Benczhowski finally received confirmation to lead the Justice Department’s criminal division after his nomination languished for more than a year while Democrats blocked him. The well-respected Benczhowski might have had less trouble winning confirmation to the post if he had not led the entire Justice Department transition for the Trump team.
May God bless the United States of America.
