A promise from Biden … Scarborough surprises … a fake news duel … the Democrat view of rule-of-law … Grassley needs to be strong … and good news for Hispanics

Here are my observations and opinions of selected news of the day.

WHAT IS A PROMISE from former Vice President Joe Biden worth these days? No more than it was worth over his eight years in office.

“We’re going to win back the United States House of Representatives, I promise you,” he said during an interview at the Biden Cancer Summit, “and I predict we’ll win back the Senate, too.”

Jill Biden, responding to a question about her husband toying with the idea of running for president in 2020, said “I would say, Joe, you would make a great president but let’s think about it.”

WHO WOULDA THUNK IT?MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, co-host of “Morning Joe,” who I have frequently criticized here, made it known he thinks that the way Democrats outed Judge Kavanaugh accuser Cristine Blasey Ford’s identity was “so offensive.”

“What is so offensive about the way the Democrats outed Dr. Ford this time, is they waited until their hearings were over – they waited until they basically put their finger up in the political winds and they know that Kavanaugh was going to pass – and said, well it looks like he’s going to pass – we’re going to shove this lady out of the closet and basically identify her,” Scarborough complained.

A FAKE NEWS DUELFox’s Brit Hume noted that when the New York Times passed on the story of another accuser of Kavanaugh – Deborah Ramierez – because it wasn’t credible, the New Yorker didn’t hesitate to run with it.

“So it was too shaky for the New York Times, but the New Yorker went with it. Very telling,“ he wrote @brithume.

The Times has reported that it has interviewed dozens of individuals to corroborate her allegation, but couldn’t find one with firsthand knowledge.

THE UGLY SPECTACLE designed by Democrats to block Kavanaugh’s confirmation “is providing an education for Americans on the new liberal standard of legal and political due process,” according to the Wall Street Journal.

“The Democrat standard for sexual-assault allegations is that they should be accepted as true merely for having been made. The accuser is assumed to be telling the truth because the accuser is a woman. The burden is on Mr. Kavanaugh to prove his innocence. If he cannot do so, then he is unfit to serve on the Court,” the Journal explains.

So, as it appears to me, the Democrats are again flouting rule-of-law – something they regularly accuse the president of doing.

The accuser has to prove the allegation in a court of law or some other venue where the accused can challenge the facts.

The Journal also points to another core tenet of due process that “an accusation isn’t any more or less credible because of the gender, race, religion or ethnicity of who makes it.

Someone needs to remind the Sen. Maize Hirono, the Hawaiian diva, of the woman who falsely charged the Duke lacrosse team.

Hirono isn’t alone making ludicrous statements.   Senators Feinstein, Gillibrand, Blumenthal and Durbin all seem to possess special mystical powers enabling them to determine that Ford is telling the truth.

In weekend television appearances, Hirono and Blumenthal pronounced Kavanaugh guilty in the “Court of Credibility.” How embarrassing.

AS I REMINDED READERS here on September 24, 2018, with the midterms just weeks away, voters are going to remember if Republican candidates were fair in their judgement of Ford, yes, but also that they didn’t go wobbly as the majority.

Senator Grassley (jsottapplewhite/ap)

I have credited Sen. Chuck Grassley (R- IA) for the manner in which he has chaired the Judiciary Committee. Yes, he’s an old white man, who incidentally has been on this committee for 38 years, but let’s not forget Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) the Democrat’s “old white man” on the Judiciary Committee.

Senator Grassley has tried to accommodate the accuser in an effort prove that Republicans aren’t women-haters as Democrats would have you believe. But if he goes weak-kneed and appears to cave in the process, victory in the midterms is unlikely.

JUDGE KAVANAUGH AND HIS WIFE acquitted themselves well during a Monday interview with Martha MacCallum on Fox Monday evening considering the dirty tricks of those who do not want him seated on the Supreme Court. He seemed purposely measured in his responses. An intelligent move as he prepares for the Thursday circus.

GOOD NEWS FOR HISPANICS – “Last week, the Census Bureau announced new household income numbers, which showed that median income for Hispanic households grew by 3.7 percent, adjusted for inflation, last year. That’s more than double the increase seen by all households.

Hispanics were the biggest victims of the low-growth, high-regulation economy of President Obama, Job Creators Network CEO Alfredo Ortiz recently wrote in The Hill.

May God bless the United States of America.
