What a difference eight years makes

I don’t remember conservatives taking to the streets to protest and riot over the election of our nation’s first black president, Barack Obama, in 2009.

Yes, Republican leader Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said that his number one priority was to make President Obama a one-term president, and conservative icon Rush Limbaugh said, “I hope Obama fails,” but neither fostered declarations of illegitimacy, protests, boycotts, obstruction, and impeding free speech.

The unseemly remarks by Democrat Senators Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Al Franken (D-MN) and others during the confirmation hearings emboldened leftists across the country to protest even though, when asked, most of them don’t know what they’re protesting. “I’ve never seen such energy in the streets … it’s extremely positive,” bragged Schumer.

School principals in some areas allowed students to leave class to protest even though some didn’t know what specifically they were protesting.

An unruly crowd kept Rep. Jason Chaffetz, (R-UT) from conducting a town hall in his home state. Newly confirmed Education Secretary Betsy DeVos was met with a disorderly crowd when she attempted to visit a Washington DC school.

Even White House spokesman Sean Spicer, who I believe is the best-informed spokesman we’ve had there since Tony Snow, is being attacked for his style.

Civil servants in Washington DC are attending disobedience and resistance training sessions to slow down and derail the Trump administration. The State of California has hired former Obama attorney general Eric Holder to fight Trump orders and legislation affecting the state.

Retail establishments that carried Ivanka Trump’s fashions, caved to boycotts when they thought they would lose business. Never mind that Michelle Obama boosted the sales of a number of designers.

Sadly, former President Obama, supported by a network of leftist groups led by Organizing for Action, recently said, he was “heartened by anti-Trump protests.”

So far, it looks like the left is losing with its scorched-earth campaign against anything Trump. The Morning Consult poll reveals that 59 percent of independents and 57 percent of moderates believe Democrats should find a way to work with Trump rather than obstruct him. An IBD/TIPP poll shows that 55 percent approve of Trump’s executive order putting a temporary hold on refugee entries with just 38 percent disapproving.

Interestingly, an Emerson College poll found that 48 percent of the public views Trump more trustworthy than the media, which came in at 39 percent.

“Brace yourselves … the Trump era begins,” I wrote on January 19, 2017. Now you understand why. Hillary was supposed to win, and the left just cannot concede that Donald Trump has won.
