You can’t make this stuff up folks

NEWS THEY THOUGHT YOU DIDN’T NEED – The three so-called main stream television networks – ABC, CBS and NBC – did not carry the results of the election in Florida’s 13th District, where Republican Dave Jolly defeated Democrat Alex Sink. The special election was held to fill the seat long held by Republican Bill Young.  The election is said to be a sign of voter discontent over ObamaCare and portends a change in the public’s political mood as the mid-term elections approach.

THERE SHE GOES AGAIN Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, the Democrat representative of Texas’ 18th District gave us another history lesson.  “Maybe I should offer a good thanks to the distinguished members of the majority, the Republicans, my chairman and others, for giving us an opportunity to have a deliberative constitutional discussion that reinforces the sanctity of this nation and how well it is that we have lasted some 400 years, operating under a constitution that clearly defines what is constitutional and what is not, “she said in a floor speech.  She was only 173 years off.  Our constitution was adopted on Sept. 17, 1787.

DURING A BRIEFING on the Mars Pathfinder at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory not only ago, Representative Lee asked if the vehicle would be able to send back photos of where Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin planted the American flag. I’m not sure how they politely told her that took place on the Moon.

IN JULY 2003 Representative Lee criticized the meteorologist community for the exclusion of African-American names for storms and hurricanes.  You just can’t make this stuff up.

AND IF YOU HAVEN’T HEARD, President Obama has his pen out again.  His actions have already caused able-bodied individuals to stay out of the work force.  Now he has signed an executive order that will further disincentivise those salaried people who are working.  He claims companies are designating lower-paid salaried people as “managers” in order to make them ineligible for overtime even though (he says) their primary responsibilities are the same as hourly workers.

Again we see this president in over his head, with no business experience, floundering his way through his “hey, let’s try this” experimental economics policy.  It will take months for the Labor Department to review the plan.  Hopefully someone there has a brain and will tell him that such a move will make employees more expensive and less productive, while increasing costs to consumers.

Salaried workers who want to move up the ladder traditionally put in extra hours in an effort to impress their superiors with the hope that it will lead to a promotion and a higher salary. That will no longer happen if this regulation is put into effect, as salaried workers will not be permitted to work overtime without pay.

AND CAN YOU BELIEVE – While appearing on Hispanic radio and television last week,  the president, who can’t even manage his budget, told young people, who say they cannot afford ObamaCare, that they need to look at their cable and cell phone bills and set their priorities right.

THAT’S THE SAME PRESIDENT who put $1 billion in the 2015 budget for a “Climate Resiliency Fund” to prepare localities for global warming.  And his budget also increases funding for green energy projects and new environmental regulations.  When is someone going to tell him he needs to set our priorities straight?

MEANWHILE there are thousands of direct and indirect jobs still waiting for the president to approve the Keystone XL pipeline.
