Can you believe it? ISIS now holds nearly half the territory of Syria and has a major hold on Fallujah and Ramadi, two Iraqi cities our warriors fought and died for, and what do we hear from our president? It’s merely a setback.
And what does he tell graduates at the recent commencement ceremonies of the United States Coast Guard Academy? He warns them that climate change is one of the largest threats they will have to face as they defend the United States and our interests abroad.
“So I’m here today to say that climate change constitutes a serious threat to global security, an immediate risk to our national security. And make no mistake, it will impact how our military defends our country.”
Touching on the hallmark of leadership and planning for contingencies, he reminds them of their duty to keep their ship and crew safe, he added, “anything else is negligence. It is dereliction of duty. And so too, with climate change.”
He went on to cite several examples of events caused by climate change, including the kidnapping and raping of women in Nigeria by Boko Harem.
That’s our commander-in-chief.
