In my Feb. 7, 2016 post, “Words have meaning,” I stated why I do not refer to that other party as the Democratic Party, because it really isn’t democratic. To me, it is the Democrat Party. I was pleased to see the editorial board of Investor’s Business Daily seems to agree, although it continues to be politically correct, and uses the official name of the party.
“The Democratic Party had better reeducate itself about the word “democratic,” IBD stated in its Feb. 10, 2016 editorial, “Is There Anything Less Democratic Than the Democratic Party?” IBD told how Hillary Clinton collected the same number of electoral college delegates (15) as Sen. Bernie Sanders, even though he crushed her 60 to 38 percent, calling it “just plain rigging.”
While Sanders said, “the American people will not continue to accept a corrupt campaign finance system that is undermining democracy,” IBD said he should have addressed the flaws in the nominating process of his own party.
The Democrat Party process allows for “super delegates,” who make up for nearly a sixth of all nominating delegates. They are party insiders, governors, campaign operatives and former office holders.
“Sanders should be vowing to change the system of cronyism and insider-ism in his own party,” suggests IBD, “a system that has undermined the will of his voters and ironically separated the word “democratic” from the Democrats.”
I repeat, words have meaning.
