Trump is the desperate one in the race

We’ve been inundated with fawning reports of Donald Trump’s big wins on the east coast earlier this week, but do you know that Hillary Clinton beat him soundly with the popular vote in those five states? Earlier in New York, Clinton’s adopted home state, she trounced Trump in his home state 1,054,000 to 525,000.  Democrat delegates in New York more than double those of the Republican Party.

Take a look at these results: Connecticut – Clinton 170,000, Trump, 124,000; Delaware – Clinton 56,000, Trump, 42,000; Maryland – Clinton, 533,300, Trump, 236,600; Pennsylvania, 918,700, Trump, 892,700; Rhode Island – Sanders, 68,700, Clinton, 55,000, Trump 40,000.

While Trump followers were all agog over his speech on foreign policy in which he used a teleprompter to make him appear more presidential and to prevent him from wandering, it generally received a failing grade from foreign policy insiders.

It’s ridiculous that our leading contender for president needs to be coached on being more presidential. Personally, I don’t want to wonder if my commander-in-chief is going to insult someone or some group when he appears.

If Trump wasn’t concerned about John Kasich in an open convention, why was it necessary for Trump to criticize him over the way he ate pancakes in a diner during his campaign? “I have never seen a human being eat in such a disgusting fashion,” insulted Trump, “This guy takes a pancake, and he’s shoving it in his mouth. It’s disgusting!” Do you want that for your president? I don’t think so.”

Birds of a feather, Knight and Trump. (Alex Sowyer)

Ditto his comment about Ted Cruz’s selection of Carly Fiorina as his running mate, calling the decision, “desperate.” Some, including me, would say Trump’s calling on former Indiana University basketball coach Bobby Knight to endorse him in Indiana was a desperate move, knowing the importance of this state to Cruz.  Not all Indiana basketball fans were fans of Knight.

Trump and his sycophants continue to claim Cruz and Kasich should bow out of the race. Why? They’re concerned that if Trump fails to receive 1,237 delegate votes for the nomination, he could lose in subsequent balloting at the convention.

I still think Cruz has a shot at the nomination, but I also think Michigan will beat Ohio State this year after losing four straight. Call me a die-hard.
