The deceit of the Obama administration, brought forth with the revelation of Ben Rhodes’ manipulation of the media concerning our dealings with Iran’s evil regime, was just the latest in a long record covered in this blog over the years.
Call it what you will – deceit, lying, cover-up, dishonesty, misinformation, stonewalling, even scandalous – it’s all part of the make-up of the Obama administration as the most corrupt in history, easily supplanting Nixon’s Watergate.
While President Obama likes to say his has been the most transparent administration in history, few people know that the Freedom of the Press Foundation recently learned that Obama’s White House worked behind the scenes to kill congressional reforms designed to give the public better access to government information.
With the administration’s recent move to play nice with Cuba, I was reminded how Deputy Secretary of State Tony Blinken lied to Sen. Marco Rubio regarding Cuba during questioning in 2014. “Anything that might be done on Cuba will have to be consistent with the law,” he responded, “Anything that in the future might be done on Cuba, would be done in full consultation (with Congress).” It never took place.
There are numerous examples of deceit surrounding Fast & Furious, shovel-ready jobs, wasteful “investments” in energy projects (Solyndra), Benghazi, and the IRS targeting of conservative groups, but it was with ObamaCare that deception trumped transparency in spades.
It goes beyond the lies that Americans would be able to keep their doctor and our current plan and that our premiums would go down.
I recall writing how the administration had to back-peddle when Obama’s health policy advisor, Dr. Ezekial Emanuel spoke of health care rationing for the elderly. And it wasn’t until the publication of former Sen. Tom Daschle’s book did his advice to Obama come to light. He said the goal is to slow the development and use of new medications and technologies because they are driving up costs. In addition, he said seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them.
In December 2014, a 2010 tape recording of Rep. John Dingell (D-MI) speaking on ObamaCare with WJR’s Paul W. Smith, during which he tells Smith that it takes a lot of hard work and preparation to create a system that will “control the people.” Big government in action.
Perhaps most revealing was the November 2014 statement by Jonathan Gruber, one of the architects of the health insurance plan, in which he referred to taxpayers being stupid and praised the lack of transparency in the current (Obama) administration.
It’s appropriate that I reprint the following quote that appeared in my Feb. 13, 2015 post, “Did you hear the joke about no White House scandals?”
“I’m proud of the fact that basically you’ve had an administration that’s been in place for six years in which there hasn’t been a major scandal … and I think that says a lot about the ethical strictures of this administration.” – David Axelrod, former advisor to President Obama
