While watching an interview of former Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal by Fox News anchor Shephard Smith on the Baton Rouge police shooting, I was taken aback by Smith’s position on Jindal’s use of “all lives matter.” During the interview, Smith castigated Jindal twice for his use of “all lives matter,” saying it was derogatory.
“It is time for folks across party lines, across ideological lines to condemn the violence, to condemn this insanity,” said Jindal, “We’ve got to come together. We’ve got to say that all lives matter. It doesn’t matter what color you are, black, white, brown, red, it doesn’t matter. All lives matter.”
“Governor,” Smith responded, “you know that phrase you just used is one that is seen by many as derogatory, right?”
“It’s not meant to be. The point is we’ve got to move beyond race,” Jindal replied, “It’s time for us to be unified as a country. We’ve got to look beyond race.”
Not satisfied, Smith again rebuked Jindal saying, “I just wonder why it is that you used that phrase when there’s a segment of the population that believes it’s a real dig on them.”
While Smith occasionally slips up and shows his liberal leaning, this confrontation with Jindal revealed that he has been taken in by the “Black Lives Matter” movement, known for its anti-police chants.
Fox should suspend Smith and remind him that he is a journalist, not a commentator. Let Fox know how you feel.
