“Sometimes, in the heat of debate and speaking on a multitude of issues, you don’t choose the right words or you say the wrong thing. I have done that, and I regret it, particularly where it may have caused personal pain.” – Donald Trump, Aug. 18, 2016
While Trump didn’t cite specific examples of such remarks, we know that many of them were directed at his primary foes. Some of them got pretty personal.
Since winning the Republican nomination for president, Trump has gained the support of a number of his primary foes – Carson, Christie, Huckabee, Jindal, Perry and Walker – who were on the receiving end of Trump’s insults, and aimed a few of their own at Trump.
I would especially hope that Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, John Kasich and Carly Fiorina, all of whom were frequent targets of Trump’s name-calling, would consider what a Trump loss to Hillary Clinton would mean to the nation.
“Too much is at stake for us to be consumed with these issues (insults of the past),” said Trump Thursday night.
I’m not sure if they would take a personal call from Trump at this point, and I’m not sure Trump would consider making those calls, but I believe the contrition he showed during his Charlotte speech was a move in the right direction and deserves consideration by those GOP candidates.
I am personally disappointed in Kasich, who I supported for president in May 2015. He is a principled man of character and must come to terms with the greater good of our country and support Trump, because the alternative will take us further down the ruinous course President Obama has taken us.
Yes, Trump is blunt and ignores political correctness, but we saw in the Mc Cain and Romney campaigns the unwillingness to hit Obama when he was on the ropes, and lose.
A Hillary Clinton presidency would be disastrous!
