Standing room only

During Donald Trump’s recent immigration speech in Phoenix he referred to the people standing in the audience, but it wasn’t until the conclusion, when the cameras pulled back to show the departing crowd, that I noticed there was no seating. They were all standing.

An estimate 15,000 Trump supporters stood for some four hours to hear him speak in Phoenix. (teaparty.org)

The estimated crowd of 15,000 not only stood for Trump’s 70-minute speech, but warm-up remarks by Gov. Doug Doucy, Sen. Jeff Sessions, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Sheriff Paul Babeu and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and an indeterminate amount of time standing in line and awaiting the start of the program. They stood for four hours at a minimum. And Trump didn’t disappoint.

Trump’s campaign is truly a movement and his stamina seems endless. Could you imagine Hillary Clinton returning from Mexico City to appear within hours? And can you imagine liberal Democrats eager to stand for hours to hear her same old message?

Trump clearly “trumped” Clinton by accepting the Mexican president’s invitation, as her campaign staff was again caught second-guessing as they did when Trump went to Baton Rouge to comfort flood victims.

There are those who say that the crowds who attend Trump rallies won’t translate into votes. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. The race is tightening.
